Medicine — Herbal Nutrient
What is Medicine?
Medicine is a fermented extract made from five aromatic or medicinal herbs, preserved in brown sugar. The aromatic compounds in these herbs are extracted through osmotic fermentation and become the active ingredients.
What does it do?
Medicine works on three levels: pest deterrent (aromatic volatiles make the plant inhospitable), immune activator (triggers the plant's own defensive chemistry), and microbe activator (shifts soil community toward beneficial organisms).
The five herbs
Traditional recipes use garlic, ginger, licorice root, angelica, and cinnamon — but practitioners adapt to local materials. The key is choosing plants that are pungent, aromatic, or medicinally active in your local ecosystem.
How is it made?
Gather equal parts of each herb. Mix with an equal weight of brown sugar. Ferment in a dark place for 7–14 days. Strain and store in dark glass. Dilute 1:1000 and apply as a foliar spray in early morning or evening.
