Fig Rust and Black Spot, Vanilla Pollination, Collecting IMO

Today's I Ching reading is Conflict: the fix is to disengage and return to balance, not push harder. Drake shows the redone PureKNF Foundation website, a contest for two tickets to the HFUU convention (Dec. 2-4), and the Research tab, which links peer-reviewed University of Hawaiʻi papers at pureknf.org/research.

A fig grower asks about rust and black spots on six-year-old trees. Drake says skip the sulfur sprays and use liquid IMO, or KNF Protectors (LAB) diluted 1:1000 on the leaf surface, from the Recipe Book. Alternate Leaf Formula and Fruit Formula for nutrition, and OHN helps too. A vanilla farmer using KNF Structure (WCP) got lots of flowers; Drake says hand-pollinate at night, since natural pollinators don't do the job well, then follow the Fruit Formula through the plant's chubby-skinny cycle. One viewer reports two years without coughing using OHN for post-nasal drip. Drake shares that chlorine dioxide eased his own kidney infection pain and fever within about 30 minutes, with no medical claims made.

After a recap of last week's Soil Environment Recovery talk, Drake continues Master Cho's IMO presentation: indigenous microorganisms means extreme local diversity, not one or two lab strains. Local microbes are best adapted to local soil, water, and climate. IMOs decompose organic matter, act as enzyme catalysts, and suppress disease by circulating nutrients naturally.

Drake walks through collecting IMO: any season works except extreme rain or drought, with box time ranging 4-20 days depending on temperature. Materials are a small lunch-box-size container, hard-cooked rice, a paper cover, and rice straw. Good collection sites sit near bamboo, banana, broadleaf trees, or rice stumps after harvest; Master Cho notes barren ground can outperform rich soil. A healthy IMO1 batch looks about 80% white, smells yeasty, and feels warm to the touch.

Questions answered

  • 11:54 Can KNF help fig trees with rust and black leaf spots? — Yes — spray liquid IMO or an IMO4 tea from soil microbes; sulfur works but fights balance instead of restoring it.
  • 15:31 What KNF solution treats rust and black spot on leaves? — KNF Protectors (LAB), diluted 1:1000 and sprayed on the leaf surface, from the Recipe Book at knfsupport.com.
  • 16:30 What else helps besides LAB for leaf disease? — Alternate Leaf Formula and Fruit Formula as foliar feed; the Structure solution also hardens leaf surfaces.
  • 18:54 Vanilla flowered well after WCP — what's next for big beans? — Hand-pollinate at night, since natural pollination isn't reliable, then follow Fruit Formula through the chubby-skinny cycle.
  • 23:40 Does OHN help post-nasal drip? — A viewer reported no coughing for two years taking OHN daily; KNF Medicine can be diluted and taken like a plant spray.
  • 24:47 What did Drake use for his own kidney infection? — Chlorine dioxide — kidney pain and fever eased within about 30 minutes, though he makes no medical claims.
  • 49:25 When is the best time of year to collect IMO? — Anytime — spring, summer, fall, or winter — except during extreme rain or extreme dryness.
  • 51:17 How long should an IMO box stay out? — 7-10 days in spring and fall, 4-5 days in summer, and 14-20 days in a well-insulated winter setup.
  • 59:20 Where's the best place to collect IMO? — Near bamboo, banana, mango, or avocado roots, under broadleaf litter, or on rice stumps right after harvest.
  • 1:00:02 Should you collect IMO from rich soil or barren ground? — Master Cho says a slightly barren area works better than a nutrient-rich one — use what's near you.
  • 1:00:53 Can IMO2 be used for JMS? — You can, but plain dirt works better for JMS.
  • 1:01:24 Should you use OHN when cooking rice for IMO collection? — Drake doesn't recommend OHN in the cooking rice; Master Cho's version uses diluted FPJ instead.
