Um, we'll start, we'll start with some chicken feed recipes and then, um, but the basic, basic thing is if your eggs are soft, you need to put more KNF reproduction in there. Um, it really, it really helps to harden up their eggs. You don't want to put too much in because, but you can also put it into their water. So we could go over a drink recipe. Um,

Cause, um, basically the calcium is a, um, is a metal it's an alkali earth metal so when you think of it i always think of it as chalk as like this powder type of stuff and not realizing it's actually a metal but calcium is a metal and um so putting water soluble calcium into their feed or into their water helps them to stay strong some people also supplement by putting oyster shell in um if you watch last week we went over

Um, and she was teaching this was January 15th 2011 so talk about a time warp of you know been doing natural farming for a long time but this if you're looking for chicken feed let's let's so let's just pause this on what she's saying so she's teaching about chickens so the benefits of it are right here you know no odor no flies no cleaning no wastewater right you don't have to clean do any of those

10:19 things because the microorganisms are they do the cleaning um it says lower the cost uh you can lower your cost because you get you raise the digestibility index of the chickens um so um they're so pound for pound for food they're going to absorb more of that food so you can then subsequently feed them a little less. No artificial heating because the floor itself is warm. Oh, you know what? I should make my mouse like that so you can see where I am. But no artificial heating. Not that you need much heating in Hawaii, but you can actually use composting piles and compost things to do it without

Although you will notice in the Korean videos they do put heaters in there because it gets freezing cold and we were there in, I think that was actually the spring that I was there, but anyway, it gets cold. They produce fertilizer. You can take some of the ground out, almost no disease, no medicines or chemicals, very little labor. So all these things combined because you don't have to clean the pens. You just basically put food in, put water in and occasionally supplement the chickens

So you actually want to put, some people keep their chickens off the ground, but you actually want to put them in touch with the soil because the soil will then be this harbor for the microorganisms and it'll become this cycle where the soil microbes are breaking down the poop

12:15 and actually making food for the chickens right out of the soil. And plus you want the chickens to be in the soil because that's going to build their immune system and keep them from disease and all these other things. So their basic feed formula here is she feeds brown rice only for the first three days after they hatch in an unlimited amount. So you'll see it in the video today. We'll go through later. I think we'll get there. Is unlimited amount of brown rice the first three days. Then after that, between day three and 15, the first two weeks, you're going to add bamboo leaves.

12:56 And these are chopped up real fine. And we'll see a video of that. So we'll get to it. but this strengthens the intestines. The leaves are not very important, but they're sweet and it trains your chickens to eat grass. Then at day three through 14, you add boiled egg yolk for two weeks. So that first, after those three days, you're going to add, I guess, day 17 to 18, whatever you want to, if you want to be super precise with the numbers, but the first two weeks after the first three days the first three days is only brown rice and after that then you're

13:33 adding bamboo in and then boiled egg and there's a reason there's a specific way to do it that you add just enough bamboo for them to be like oh this is sweet or it's actually the boiled egg goes in first because then they start to frenzy for it they start to hit that stuff and before they eat all the egg then you drop in this bamboo powdered stuff there it like like really finely cut and i'll show you we'll see it but this is just an overview so small bamboo why bamboo can you substitute charcoal no it's bamboo leaves because they're sweet and they're not that digestible and

14:10 they make the whole point is this rice plus the bamboo is going to stretch their intestines and make tune them for high digestible, like high digestion. And the boiled egg is going to simulate the milk of the mother by giving them the egg because they don't, they don't nurse their, their, um, birds that come out of eggs. They don't have mammaries. They're not mammals. They're reptiles or birds, I guess. I think they're reptiles. If you ever spend a bunch of time with chickens you'll realize they're very related to dinosaurs um and so the egg powers them up if

14:48 you don't give them this egg i've i didn't used to do this egg because i didn't know about it and my chicks were always weak in the beginning because i was just feeding them rice and bamboo and then some other feeds and they were getting malnourished but you put this egg in there the boiled egg and you cut it real fine for them real small like push it through a colander or something make it real fine and the columnar is maybe not the right word but like a sieve type of thing make it real small and you will have the strongest chickens you've ever seen um so i'll let you

17:34 fairly easy for most folks like this could be your compost waste could be 30 of their food and then store feed you can just go ahead and buy store feed for me if i don't feed my chickens scratch grains their laying rate reduces significantly and so you know but figuring out what works for you balancing it but basically you know 60 percent of 70 percent of their thing can be right from there and then you know a little bit 30 percent there so this is going just basics you can kind of read this you can watch this video if you want let's see let's zoom into the next one

18:45 of this straw here you could cut this straw you want to make sure it's less than three inches long though because it's longer than that it'll just the chickens can't turn it and it'll turn into a mat of poop and it'll just be a layer of poop that you can't get through and uh super gnarly on that end um and then once you put the floor down you put im04 which you probably saw last week of doing it going through and then she says one or two times a week spray the floor with um with food protectors and microbes. I do not do this. You don't need to do this. She says spring

19:21 to fall. You don't need to do this. I mean, unless, but if you ever do have the floor start to smell, do use this right here. And this is like the classic dilution ratios, one to 500, one to a thousand, one to a, you know, just sprinkle IMO in there. Just sprinkle it. And this will get rid of any smell that was happening. So if you ever have a problem where it starts to stink, this is the solution to put this down. And you don't need to do it one or two times a week. Just if it ever smells, you do this. Okay. And chickens eat the straw fermented feces and straw from time to time.

It looks like she's talking about the building and the airflow is very vital if you don't have air flowing in and leaving the gases the ammonia gas will collect on the sides and holy crap will it get stinky so what you want to do is you want to have the ventilation be coming in from the floor up to the chicken's beak so that's what like the bottom foot have an opening where air can come in and this should be on

20:36 the side where the sun's going to beat down the most on the roof because when the sun beats down on the roof is it will heat up and if you have like a tin roof up there it'll heat up and then the air will naturally flow in and rise when it gets hot in there and pull out the top and having a ventilation through your top is very vital that gets airflow to happen and all those gross gases that were there and whatever evacuate through the top and you will have a very good clean smelling chicken pen this also works for pig pens you just make sure it always

You can follow the previous feed recipe and that gives you a little bit more idea of how to use the other natural farming solutions. Hopefully, you know, that beginning thing where Kim's talking about it and then you actually see the koreans doing it where they're mixing in seawater eggs all these different things he's mixing a liter of seawater in you know not not the whole thing just a little you know a liter
