Frozen FPJ, Chicken Feed Ratios, Toxic Tire Mulch

The episode opens with an I Ching reading on Waiting and Nourishment, then Thanksgiving and Black Friday chat with the audience. Drake announces the next Pure KNF Foundation monthly Zoom meeting on December 8, and promises to ship out a book order this week.

Questions cover frozen parsley for FPJ (extract it now while the cells are broken, or make salsa), freezing grow tips for plant juice (not recommended, it can kill microbes and endophytes), and adding beer or vodka to solutions without OHN (alcohol invites ciliates and isn't generally recommended; a little helps solubilize chlorophyll but not much more). A farmer with rubber tire mulch is told to add IMO and biochar to pull the toxins into balance rather than dump it.

The back half works through Master Cho's basic poultry training seminar: feeders sized to the age of the bird, training chicks to eat grass so it becomes a third of their diet, rice hulls and dirt mixed into feed for fiber and minerals, and a 24-hour fermentation of the mix in wheelbarrows before feeding once a day around 10am.

Dr. Park walks through the feed formula itself, about 30kg rice bran, 1 liter seawater, 200ml calcium phosphate, 150cc Animal Mineral D, 200ml plant juice, toasted oyster shell for calcium, and toasted granite that works as grit in the crop since chickens have no teeth or stomach acid. Drake also covers the roughly 10-to-12 hens per rooster ratio that keeps a pen calm.

Questions answered

  • 7:15 My parsley froze in 20°F weather — can I still make FPJ with it? — Yes, do it right away while the cells are broken, then put it in sugar to osmotically extract; a salsa works too.
  • 21:22 Why not use beer or vodka in solutions when OHN isn't available? — Alcohol invites ciliates, which turn destructive in high numbers; the alcohol in KNF medicine mainly carries it through the cell wall and solubilizes chlorophyll.
  • 25:20 Can I freeze grow tips to save up material before making plant juice? — Not recommended, freezing may kill the microbes and endophytes in the tissue; better to switch to an abundant material like banana or honohono grass.
  • 28:30 My mulch is shredded rubber tires and full of toxins — trash it or keep using it? — Keep it, but throw IMO and biochar on it; the microbes and char pull the toxins into balance and turn them into nutrients.
  • 33:27 Why does Master Cho use different feeders for baby versus medium chickens? — It's chicken psychology, you size the feeder to the bird, like giving a kid a small spoon instead of an adult one.
  • 37:19 Why won't chickens eat grass mixed into their feed? — You have to train them to eat it when they're young; done right, grass can make up a third of their diet.
  • 43:58 Why is dirt mixed into the chicken feed? — It gives them earth minerals they need to grind and digest food; it's just not legal to add dirt to feed in the US.
  • 55:35 What time of day should you feed chickens? — Feed around 10am so they walk around grinding it in their crop all day; feed at night and it just rots in their belly.
  • 56:11 Do you put IMO on the chicken pen floor too? — Yes, a light sprinkling over the whole floor, but it's a one-time setup, not something redone every feeding.
  • 57:27 Why are there way more hens than roosters in the pen? — About 10 to 12 hens per rooster; the roosters guard the clutch and let the hens eat first, and that ratio keeps everyone calm.
  • 59:30 Do you give the birds sand or pebbles to help digestion? — Yes, there's a separate chicken feed mix with dirt and grit in it for that.
  • 1:02:30 What's Dr. Park's basic feed formula for the chickens? — Roughly 30kg rice bran, 1 liter seawater, 200ml calcium phosphate, 150cc Animal Mineral D, 200ml plant juice, toasted oyster shell, and IMO 4.
  • 1:06:22 What's the toasted granite in the feed mix for? — Chickens have no teeth or stomach acid, so the granite grit works as the grinder inside their crop.
