Chick Feed, Rock Dust Calcium, Brown Rice Vinegar Dilution

Drake opens with an I Ching reading on Biting Through, then a tribute to Master Cho and hellos to viewers from Belgium, Western Australia, and the Pacific Northwest. Winter is a hard time to teach KNF in person, but spring is the best season for the practice itself, since growth tips are vigorous for making plant juices and collecting IMO.

The Foundation got funded for another year, and Drake shows drone flight paths using RTK (real-time kinematics) that fly the same line every time. He plans to expand the drone program with the new funding.

Most of the episode plays a Master Cho poultry training video. It opens with Goksong County, Korea's mayor discussing the sister-city relationship with Hawaiʻi County, in place since 2013, which has included a poultry seminar exchange. The video then covers chick feeding: a brown rice pile renewed and offered freely for the first three days, a feed mix using gold-green rice instead of brown rice, and calcium sources when rock dust isn't available, including crushed granite, crushed coral, and glacial dust. Brown rice vinegar (Mineral A) gets diluted 200 to 1.

Drake closes with feeding mechanics: broilers get all they'll eat to fatten fast, layers get restricted rations, and protein goes up if layers aren't laying well or broilers aren't sizing up. Overfeed them one day and they eat less the next, so rations need to be dialed back. Wooden feeders need rebuilding roughly every two years because IMOs slowly eat away untreated wood.

Questions answered

  • 10:40 What's the best time of year to do Korean natural farming? — Spring, because growth tips are vigorous, good for making plant juices and collecting IMO.
  • 15:14 Did the Foundation get funded again? — Yes, funded for another year, with plans to expand the drone program.
  • 16:45 What's the Hawaiʻi-Goksong sister city connection about? — Hawaiʻi County and Goksong County, Korea have had a sister-city relationship since 2013, including a poultry farming seminar exchange.
  • 46:02 How much brown rice do you feed chicks in the first three days? — Put out a pile of brown rice, renew it, and let them eat as much as they want for the first three days.
  • 55:48 What's the dilution rate for brown rice vinegar, Mineral A? — Brown rice vinegar mineral solution is diluted 200 to 1.
  • 56:53 What can you use for rock dust if you don't have the usual source? — Crushed granite, crushed coral, or glacial rock dust all work as calcium substitutes.
  • 58:35 What's different about chick feed mix number four? — It uses gold-green rice instead of brown rice, mixed with the same minerals.
  • 59:22 Should broilers and layers be fed differently? — Broilers get as much food as they'll eat to fatten up fast, layers get restricted rations, and protein rises if layers aren't laying or broilers aren't sizing up.
  • 1:00:48 What happens if you overfeed your chickens? — They eat less the next day, so you have to reduce their feed back down.
  • 1:01:27 How often do wooden chicken feeders need rebuilding? — About every two years, because IMOs slowly eat away untreated wood feeders.
