Composting Meat, IMO Bath Pile, Tincture Refilling Method

A farmer asks how to compost meat that isn't fish. Drake says feed it to animals first — chickens, pigs, dogs. If you ferment it, treat it like fish amino acid: equal parts meat and brown sugar, no smell if done right. The messier method, called disgustingly cheap food, adds meat and food waste to a water barrel for two weeks; it stinks and draws maggots but dissolves into a liquid you can water onto plants.

The Pure KNF Foundation will run a full day of Korean Natural Farming at the Hawaiʻi Farmers Union Convention on October 25, 8am to 5pm, on Aliʻi Drive in Kailua-Kona. Admission is free, and Drake is partnering with the Farmers Union this year.

Drake shows a home-assistant temperature log from an IMO pile he built in a box instead of on the ground, wired with an ESP8266 and Dallas probes. The pile hit about 130°F Friday night, he turned it after getting in for a bath, and it peaked near 11am Sunday before dropping fast — days earlier than the four-day heat he usually sees on the ground. He took four baths from the pile total.

Questions cover extraction basics: a wild boar amino acid ferment doesn't need to be airtight, just screened against soldier flies; a year-old fish amino acid will still have undigested bones and skin; and angelica tincture that turns to jelly usually started as powder instead of chips. Drake also walks through Master Cho's exact tincture 'refilling' method — pour off two-thirds, keep one-third with the herbs, top with vodka, and mix each batch back together — and revisits old footage of Master Lee and Dr. Park explaining the mineral solution behind root power (RP), which can grow 10-15 centimeters of new root within hours of a soak.

Questions answered

  • 9:47 Best way to compost meat that isn't fish? — Feed it to animals first; if fermenting, layer equal parts meat and brown sugar like fish amino acid, or bury it with carbon — straight composting is disgustingly smelly.
  • 29:03 Making amino acid from wild boar — does the barrel need to be airtight? — No, just keep it covered with a screen so soldier flies can't lay maggots in the ferment.
  • 31:03 My fish amino acid is a year old and still has undigested fish — normal? — Yes, that's normal — it keeps liquifying, but bones and skin won't fully break down.
  • 32:30 My angelica extraction turned to jelly — why? — Likely because the angelica went in as powder instead of chipped; strain it through a fine bag.
  • 34:00 Do paint strainer bags work for straining extractions? — Yes, but they're basically single-use; bubble hash bags down to 25 microns hold up far longer.
  • 36:11 What's the correct way to "refill" or reseed a tincture jar? — Pour off two-thirds, keep one-third with the herbs, top both back up with vodka, then mix the batches back together each time — that's Master Cho's method from the book.
  • 57:16 What minerals are in root power (RP)? — Master Cho never taught the exact recipe before he died, so it's pieced together from clues in his book and stays a guarded secret.
  • 57:57 How is root power used at transplanting time? — Soak roots five to six minutes before transplanting, and new roots 10 to 15 centimeters long can grow within hours.
