What to use when making FFJ
Top answer
From the KNF library
Drake keeps FPJ to one plant per batch, and the library agrees. (Office Hours Ep. 19, 50:59)
Sources differ on this. Cho's text on fruit juice says to use more than three species together when adding supplementary ingredients. (Cho, Theory, p. 77) The Hawaii manual warns of leaf burn from combining more than three ingredients in one FPJ. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 37)
To apply separate batches, Drake matches the batch to the growth stage: (Office Hours Ep. 14, 17:40)
- Tip FPJ for juvenile plants. (Office Hours Ep. 14, 17:40)
- Unripe fruit or flower FPJ at the flowering changeover. (Office Hours Ep. 14, 17:40)
- Ripe-fruit FPJ to finish the fruit. (Office Hours Ep. 14, 17:40)
Each plant makes an FPJ that supports a different cycle of the plant. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 37) Mix it 1:500 with water and apply once a week. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 37)
The library does not say whether to blend separate FPJs into one tank or rotate them within a stage.
