Super saturation

i added a one to one ration of brown sugar to a aloe fpj, but it’s still very bubbly. What should I do before storing?

From the KNF library

From the KNF library Drafted by Claude from Office Hours and the books · Sep 2026 · 7 sources

Drake's aloe method: strain the juice, then super-saturate it with more sugar. (Office Hours Ep. 82, 50:19) The manual gives equal parts brown sugar as the long-term storage ratio. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 36)

To check your jar, stir in sugar until only a thin ring settles on the bottom. That ring marks the supersaturation point. (Office Hours Ep. 17, 1:07:21) Supersaturated means added sugar stops dissolving. (Office Hours Nov 2023, 1:06:11)

  • A strong alcohol smell means the batch was not supersaturated with enough sugar. (Office Hours Ep. 88, 27:29)
  • The UH manual says the microbes in stored FPJ stay alive and keep making gas, so keep the lid loose. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 34)
  • One office hours answer says to seal it with a solid lid once it is supersaturated. (Office Hours Ep. 42, 36:50) The two sources disagree on the lid.

The library does not say whether bubbling after a 1:1 mix is normal. It also does not say how long to wait before you store it.
