Endophytes in knfFood, Kelp Food, Coffee Leaf Rust Drone

Drake opens with the I Ching hexagram Tachuang, the Power of the Great, then answers Cheryl on stirring his mug (raw milk and ginger knfFood, no coffee this week). He covers his new ag drone, bought to spray coffee leaf rust on Kona's steep, rocky slopes: it flies 3 to 4 feet per second at 25 gallons per acre, covering about 7 acres an hour, and he presented it to the Hawaii Farmers Union up in Kohala.

He walks through three ways to support the work: donate to Pure KNF Foundation through pureknf.org (Stripe, about 3 percent fee, tax deductible, auto-approved under 400 dollars), donate directly to him through the Natural Farming Hawaii store, or mail a check to PO Box 59, Papaʻikou, HI 96781. Asked about Bitcoin, he says he is not into crypto, calls it fully trackable and Ponzi-like, and trusts gold, silver, and oil as real money.

On knfFood, he answers questions on kelp (drain it, mix with a third to a half its weight in sugar, ferment 3 to 4 days, then supersaturate the strained liquid), pumpkin (cube it, same sugar ratio, leave the rind on), and apples (cut each into eight pieces, peel on, skip equal-parts sugar).

The main topic is endophytes: bacteria and fungi that live inside plant cells without causing disease. Drake argues fermented plant juice carries these endophytes along with nutrients, making it a plant-based microbial inoculant, and that the seed soak solution reinoculates weak seeds with them before they sprout. He closes with a definition of supersaturation (every water molecule bound to a sugar molecule) and tells a viewer to let slow LAB run 7 to 10 days and strain curds through a fine cloth.

Questions answered

  • 7:36 Do you stir your drink to the right? — Drake stirs to the left; his mug was raw milk mixed with ginger knfFood, not coffee.
  • 12:28 Why did you buy an ag drone for coffee leaf rust? — Kona's steep, rocky fields are hard to walk with a backpack sprayer, so the drone flies over and mists evenly.
  • 20:37 How do I donate without YouTube taking a cut? — Give through the pureknf.org Donate button instead; it runs on Stripe, keeps about 3 percent, and is tax deductible.
  • 23:20 Can I donate directly to Drake instead of the foundation? — Yes, through a store item under Natural Farming Hawaii, but that donation is not tax deductible.
  • 25:16 Can I send a check instead of paying card fees? — Mail it to Pure KNF Foundation, PO Box 59, Papaʻikou, HI 96781.
  • 29:46 What do you think of Bitcoin and crypto for donations? — He is not into it, calls Bitcoin fully trackable and Ponzi-like, and trusts gold, silver, and oil as real money.
  • 34:23 Is kelp used in KNF, and how do I ferment it? — Drain wet kelp, mix with a third to a half its weight in sugar, ferment 3 to 4 days, then supersaturate the liquid.
  • 39:58 Can I make a pumpkin knfFood? — Cube the pumpkin, mix with a third to a half its weight in sugar, pack two-thirds full, and leave the rind on.
  • 42:05 Can I use equal parts sugar on an old pumpkin, FPJ style? — He does not recommend equal parts; it wastes sugar, so use a third to a half the weight instead.
  • 44:51 Can I use apples for knfFood? — Yes, cut each apple into eight pieces with the peel on and mix with sugar.
  • 50:11 What are endophytes, and why do they matter in KNF? — They are bacteria or fungi living inside plant cells without causing disease, and knfFood carries them as a plant-based inoculant.
  • 54:44 Why does seed soak solution matter for endophytes? — Soaking seeds in the knfFood-based seed soak reinoculates weak seeds with endophytes before they even sprout.
  • 1:06:11 What is supersaturation? — It means every water molecule in the liquid is bound to a sugar molecule, shown when added sugar stops dissolving.
  • 1:08:27 My LAB still has curds after four days. Should I pour it off? — Let it run 7 to 10 days; the curds will not hurt you, and you can strain them out through a fine cloth.
