IMO 3 with wood chips

I have not received a lesson in adding wood chips to my piles but I would like to try.  How much goes in? Size of chips? How fresh or dry? I am in NY state and have access to many kinds of wood chips.

Drake's IMO3 substrate is 1 part wheat mill run to 1 part wood chips by volume, with optional 5% biochar. (Cho's Solutions, p. 18) Moisten it to 60% moisture. (Cho's Solutions, p. 18)

Wood chips add texture so the pile holds its shape. Dog food adds the fats, oils, and protein the microbes need. (Office Hours Ep. 113, 34:09)

On chips already full of mycelium, Drake says not to worry much. Soil mycelium outcompetes the wood-decomposing fungi as the IMO process moves along. (Office Hours Ep. 95, 1:00:53) To be safe, soak the chips in saltwater first. (Office Hours Ep. 95, 54:40)

The library does not give chip size, fresh versus dry, or which New York woods to use.
