Our Committees
The Foundation's work happens through four standing committees. Each has a charter, a chair, and a job to do. If you want to get involved, committees are where the work lives.
Growbot & Tech Committee
Chair: Drake Weinert
The tech backbone of everything we do. This committee manages:
- Five Foundation websites plus hosting, DNS, and server infrastructure
- Chat platform at chat.pureknf.org — our community hub
- SSO identity system — single sign-on across all Foundation services
- Drone spraying program — a DJI Agras T40 agricultural drone applying KNF solutions with RTK precision guidance
- Weather station — collecting local environmental data for research
- AI development — including Spirit of Master Cho, the KNF knowledge base built from years of Office Hours transcripts
2026 focus: Platform consolidation. We're unifying the member experience across all Foundation services — one login, one profile, one place to find everything.
Research Committee
Chair: Erik Degunther
Turning KNF practice into KNF science. The Research Committee runs structured projects that bring academic methodology to what practitioners already know works.
- Academic partnerships with UH CTAHR and UH Manoa
- Community science projects where Foundation members participate directly in research
- Research portal at research.pureknf.org
- Goal: Peer-reviewed publications that validate KNF practices
KNF has decades of field results. What it needs now is documentation that the academic and agricultural establishment can't ignore. That's what this committee is building.
Membership & Certification Committee
This committee stewards our growing community and administers the KNF Certification Program.
- Monthly member meetings — second Tuesday, Komohana building in Hilo (and via Zoom)
- Office Hours coordination — our flagship weekly education program
- Newsletter and member communications
- New member onboarding — helping people find their footing
- KNF Certification — establishing and maintaining standards of practitioner excellence
2025 highlight: 47% membership growth, from 19 to 28 associate members. The community is building momentum.
Micro-Documentary Committee
Chair: Jennifer Weinert
Creating professional video content that teaches KNF to a visual audience.
- Instructional video series — 9 to 12 episodes in production, each covering a core KNF solution from raw ingredients to field application
- Documentation of KNF practices and the Foundation's mission
- Media asset management — organizing our growing library of photos, video, and audio
- Professional production — working with video editor Jordan to produce content that's both educational and watchable
These aren't YouTube tutorials. They're documentary-style productions designed to be the definitive visual guide to KNF solution preparation.
