OHN Pour-Off Ratio, FPJ Squeezing, Maltose Recipe

Drake opens with OHN medicine: five herbs — garlic, ginger, licorice, cinnamon, angelica — soaked in makgeolli, then brown sugar, then soju at 35-40% alcohol. He walks through the pour-off method step by step: pour all the liquid out, return one third to the jar, top the rest with fresh alcohol, then repeat the two-week tincturing cycle two more times so the batches mix. He stirs it clockwise, more for discipline than science, and says any hard alcohol over 35% works, though something as strong as Everclear is too much.

For FPJ, he explains why you never squeeze the plant matter — squeezing ruptures cell walls and lets the bad stuff through. Leafy material gets one third sugar by weight; fruit gets close to equal weight because it's juicier and sweeter. Bamboo, comfrey, and honohono grass all get named as good choices. Goat feed gets a mention too: mix 10% IMO4 into the ration and their droppings turn into little bokashi balls.

He covers fish amino acid made from sardines and equal weight sugar, weighted down with rocks and a little hay. Then water-soluble calcium from toasted eggshells and vinegar, and water-soluble calcium phosphate from charred land-animal bones — never bird bones, they're too thin. He also walks through a full maltose recipe from sprouted barley, diluted 1:500 for seed soak and root rot.

The back half covers bacterial mineral water, loess powder for canker at 20-30 grams per 20 liters, chitosan from crab shells, water-soluble potassium from tobacco stalks, and water-soluble phosphoric acid from charred sesame. He closes with a fix for ammonia-smelling soil: lactic acid bacteria, seawater, IMO, and charcoal to flocculate it.

Questions answered

  • 13:02 What's a good feed mix for goats? — Mix about 10% IMO4 into their feed, or IMO3 where regulations ban soil in feed.
  • 17:27 How do I do the OHN pour-off — one third or two thirds? — Pour all the liquid out, then return one third to the jar and top the rest with fresh alcohol, repeating that cycle.
  • 22:56 Why is it so critical to stir OHN clockwise? — It's mostly tradition and discipline — the precision you put in shows up in a better product.
  • 26:05 What alcohol can I use for OHN — could I use fruit alcohol? — Yes, any hard alcohol over 35% works; avoid something as strong as Everclear.
  • 27:22 How do I get organic matter where it's hot and dry? — Char wood and bury it — use biochar.
  • 29:45 Why wouldn't you squeeze the plant matter when making FPJ? — Squeezing ruptures the cell walls and lets unwanted stuff taint the good juice — let it drain by gravity instead.
  • 32:35 Should IMO2 turn liquid or stay solid? — Some of it will liquefy and some won't, even with equal weight sugar to IMO — it varies.
  • 34:01 How much sugar for FPJ made from fruit versus plants? — Leafy plant material gets one third sugar by weight; fruit gets close to equal weight because it's juicier and sweeter.
  • 42:12 My one-month FAA is bubbling like beer — is that the IMO4? — More likely it's extra moisture or blood in the fish; add more sugar or submerge it if the smell turns bad, but a good smell means it's fine.
  • 43:20 Is it easier to remove eggshell membranes before or after toasting? — Before — soak the boiled eggs in warm water a couple minutes and the membrane scrapes off easily.
  • 43:41 Can I use bird bones to make water-soluble calcium phosphate (WPCA)? — No — bird bones are too thin and turn to ash when charred; use land-animal bones instead.
  • 46:35 How do I make maltose and what is it used for? — Sprout and dry barley, crush it, mix with hard-cooked rice kept warm, then filter and dilute 1:500 — used for seed soak, root rot, damping off, and livestock with low appetite.
  • 1:00:37 How do I use loess powder to treat canker? — Mix 20 to 30 grams of loess powder into 20 liters of water and apply it as a seedling treatment.
  • 1:06:40 My soil smells like ammonia — what should I do? — That means anaerobic conditions — apply lactic acid bacteria, seawater, IMO, and charcoal to flocculate the soil.
