Jadam Herbal Solution Recipe, Sulfur Foot Soak, KNF Input Costs

Drake opens an old cost spreadsheet from Madadge. A seed solution runs about $22 to make, $10 in material and $12 in labor. Fish amino acid runs $8 in material and $9 in labor. Farming 25 acres with KNF inputs costs roughly $6,000 to $7,000 doing it yourself, up to $27,000 if you pay someone else to do it all, about $1,000 an acre a year. Treating one acre with the seed formulation costs about $5.25, or $273 a year at weekly applications.

He compares that to a real 320-acre village spreadsheet: natural pesticide and liquid fertilizer came to $37 an acre. He also shows photos of sulfur diluted 1 to 10 used as a foot bath for toe fungus. He does not recommend trying this at home.

On sprayers, Drake tells people to stop carrying backpack tanks like the Stihl SR and put the tank in a wagon or cart instead, pulling a hose behind them. A light mist on plants will not hurt soil microbes, but slamming spray straight into them will.

The main topic is Jadam Herbal Solution, built from what insects will not eat, what tastes spicy, and what smells strong. Examples include Jerusalem artichoke, ginkgo, bracken, oleander, pokeweed, tobacco, foxglove, and Korean passionflower root, which Master Cho calls the strongest. The recipe: boil 3 kilos of dried root in 75 liters of water for about 5 hours, then dilute 3 to 20 liters per 500 liters of water, or about 10 liters for a fog machine tank. Drake also answers that fish amino acid only gets better with age, he has a 15-year-old batch, and that green noni fruit and banana flower can both go into a taro drench at 1 to 500.

Questions answered

  • 8:46 How much do KNF solutions cost to make? — Drake shares an old spreadsheet: a seed solution runs about $22, $10 in material and $12 in labor.
  • 12:20 What does it cost to run KNF inputs on 25 acres? — About $6,000 to $7,000 doing it yourself, up to $27,000 fully hired out, roughly $1,000 an acre a year.
  • 19:17 How does that compare to a real farm's numbers? — A 320-acre village spreadsheet came in at $37 an acre for natural pesticide and liquid fertilizer.
  • 24:43 Can a sulfur solution treat toe fungus? — Drake says he has seen people dilute it 1 to 10 and soak their feet, though he does not recommend it.
  • 25:27 Is a backpack sprayer like the Stihl SR a good idea? — Drake says put the tank in a wagon and pull it instead of carrying the weight on your back.
  • 28:26 Does a power sprayer or fogger kill soil microbes? — A light mist is fine, but slamming spray straight into the plant will kill them.
  • 36:43 Can I use an IMO extract instead of an IMO tea? — Sure, Drake says you can do all kinds of stuff that way.
  • 37:33 What is Jadam Herbal Solution (JHS) based on? — Whatever insects will not eat, whatever tastes spicy, and whatever smells strong.
  • 45:15 What is the JHS recipe with Korean passionflower root? — Boil 3 kilos of dried root in 75 liters of water for about 5 hours, the strongest root Master Cho uses.
  • 51:09 How much JHS do you dilute per application? — Use 3 to 20 liters per 500 liters of water for general use, and about 10 liters for a fog machine tank.
  • 56:25 How long can fish amino acid (FAA) sit before you use it? — A long time. Drake has a 15-year-old batch and says it gets sweeter and finer with age.
  • 58:40 Green noni fruit or banana flower for taro? — Use both at 1 to 500. Noni helps immunity, banana flower helps the plant into its next growth stage.
