GMO Soil Microbes, Dog Ear Infections, Jadam Origins

Drake opens 2024 with the I Ching hexagram Pi, stagnation, then answers Mark's question on GMO soil microbes. His take: scientists have barely classified soil microbes, GMO bacteria like E. coli (used to make insulin) rarely survive once released into nature, and bacteria already swap DNA on their own through horizontal gene transfer, which is exactly what happens inside an IMO3 or IMO4 pile.

For a dog's ear infection, Drake recommends a few drops of LAB plus diluted OHN or warm garlic oil, and points to the July 23, 2023 office hour at the 21-minute mark for more detail. Sulfur and garlic are the better call for scabies, not LAB.

The bulk of the episode traces the origin of Jadam. Drake shows Master Cho's original manual, pointing to recipe 17 (soap water, hot pepper water, green grass liquid fertilizer) as the root of Jadam's oil, pesticide, and JLF (Jadam liquid fertilizer). He recounts the rift between Master Cho and his son Young Song Cho, driven by Young Song wanting cheap access for poor farmers versus his sister Joo Young wanting to monetize consulting, and the 2015 Korea trip with Dr. Park that reunited father and son.

Quick hits: a carbon filter may pull fluoride from tap water, start beginners on green grass liquid fertilizer before IMO4, a Hawaiian OHN uses garlic, ginger, and turmeric, and a LAB/nutrient mix should keep a week to a month refrigerated if it doesn't smell putrefied. Drake also announces Pure KNF Foundation associate memberships at pureknf.org, $120 a year suggested ($60 minimum), including four indigenous-microbe documentaries.

Questions answered

  • 14:37 Are soil microbes being genetically modified, and should farmers worry? — Not much to worry about — scientists have barely identified soil microbes, and GMO bacteria rarely survive competition in a real soil biome.
  • 30:48 Would a few drops of LAB in a dog's ear help an ear infection? — Yes, paired with diluted OHN or warm garlic oil to clear the infection and keep it from coming back.
  • 33:54 Where can I find past answers, like the dog ear infection episode? — knfsupport.com archives every office hour with timestamps, e.g. July 23, 2023 covers dog ear infections at the 21-minute mark.
  • 34:43 What is Jadam, or the 'disgustingly cheap microbes' method? — Mix water, microbes, food, and minerals in a bucket by ratio, using the bubbling peak to time it for soil building or liquid fertilizer.
  • 37:45 Would LAB help treat scabies? — Maybe, but garlic and sulfur are the stronger choices against scabies.
  • 52:04 Is Jadam actually different from Korean Natural Farming? — No, Jadam is Young Song Cho's cheap version of his father Master Cho's recipes, and both trace back to the same original manual.
  • 1:07:07 How do I mitigate fluoride in urban tap water? — Try running it through a carbon filter, though Drake says to fact-check that claim.
  • 1:07:56 What's a good first solution before attempting IMO4? — Start with Young Song Cho's ultra-cheap green grass liquid fertilizer before jumping into IMO4.
  • 1:09:05 What's in the Hawaiian OHN made with garlic, turmeric, and ginger? — A recipe from Gil using garlic and ginger as the base, with turmeric added for extra benefit.
  • 1:09:56 How long does a LAB and nutrient mix stay good in water? — Refrigerated, probably a week to a month; smell it and toss it if it's putrefied instead of fermented.
  • 1:11:10 Any resources for dealing with clay soils? — Search 'clay' in the office hour archive at knfsupport.com, since it's been covered many times before.
  • 1:11:55 How do I become a Pure KNF Foundation member? — Sign up at pureknf.org, $120 a year suggested ($60 minimum), for access to four indigenous-microbe documentaries with more benefits coming.
