Crystal Vortex Brewer, Pig Pen Sizing, WCA/WCP for People
Drake fixed both sprayers this week: a Maruyama MS-75E for walking the garden with a long hose, and a tractor-mounted sprayer with a diaphragm pump. For a new garden bed he ridges the soil with a BCS power ridger, soaks biochar in fish amino acid, tops it with IMO4, waters in maintenance solution plus minerals, then adds a Jadam microbe solution before covering with black plastic.
He uses gemstones and crystals in a homemade vortex brewer: water loops through an air-lift tube and splashes down onto crystals for about 18 hours, pulling minerals into the water. He drinks the result and calls it bacterial mineral water; full build instructions are at naturalfarminghawaii.net.
Farrowing pig pens run 10x12 to 12x14 feet so sows raise piglets without a crate; double that size for finishing ten pigs to market weight, and bury conifer logs under the pen if that's what's on hand. Egg yolk oil, water-soluble calcium (WCA), and water-soluble calcium phosphate (WCP) work with duck or guinea fowl eggs, not just chicken. Both are shelf-stable outside the fridge unless made with a living vinegar mother, which needs pasteurizing. Drake drinks about a teaspoon of each a day in a lot of water, but says to check with a doctor first. A five-gallon HDPE bucket holds up fine for mixing a KOH wetting agent.
For sandy soil, pile wood chips and organic matter on top instead of tilling it in, inoculate the pile, and plant into it. Good IMO collection sites sit near bamboo or banana with deep leaf litter and soil that balls into aggregates, ideally 50 to 100 feet higher in altitude. Standard dilutions: protectors at 1:1000, fermented plant juice at 1:500. Brown sugar can be built from white sugar and blackstrap molasses; Drake's video "KNF Sugar vs Molasses" breaks down the ratios. For moss on fruit trees, paint on a slurry of IMO, seawater, and oatmeal.
Questions answered
- 13:13 What sprayers does Drake use on the farm? — A Maruyama MS-75E backpack engine sprayer with a long hose, plus a tractor-mounted sprayer with a diaphragm pump.
- 19:36 Anything specific to do when preparing a new grow space for KNF? — Ridge the bed, soak biochar in fish amino acid, add IMO4, water in maintenance solution plus minerals, then a Jadam microbe solution.
- 22:46 What do you do with gemstones and crystals? — Put them in a bacterial mineral water vortex brewer that circulates water over crystals for about 18 hours.
- 32:49 How big should a KNF farrowing pig pen be? — About 10x12 to 12x14 feet so the sow has room to raise piglets without a crate; double it for finishing ten pigs to market weight.
- 34:29 Can I make egg yolk oil, WCA, and WCP with duck or guinea fowl eggs? — Yes, eggshells and yolks from any bird work, chicken eggs are just bigger.
- 35:20 What can I use to make a wetting agent in a plain five-gallon bucket? — HDPE plastic buckets hold up fine, the KOH used to make it isn't hot enough to melt them.
- 36:12 Can I store water-soluble calcium and calcium phosphate outside the fridge? — Yes, both are shelf-stable at room temperature unless made with a living vinegar mother, in which case pasteurize them first.
- 37:51 How much WCA and WCP does Drake drink? — He said to consult a doctor first, but he personally drinks about a teaspoon of each per day diluted in a lot of water.
- 39:32 How do you use weeds in natural farming? — Fill a barrel with pulled weeds and water, let it rot three days to a week, then spread the liquid as a cheap fertilizer.
- 44:00 What do you look for when collecting IMO from the wild? — Healthy bamboo or banana stands with deep leaf litter, avoid pine needles, look for soil that balls into little aggregates, and collect from 50-100 feet higher altitude.
- 45:23 How do I turn sandy soil into a growing medium? — Pile wood chips and organic matter on top of the sand, inoculate it, and plant into the pile so nutrients leach down instead of tilling everything in.
- 47:46 What dilution ratio should I use for spraying microgreens? — Dilute protectors 1:1000 and fermented plant juice 1:500, the standard recipe ratios.
- 56:13 Can I make brown sugar by mixing white sugar with blackstrap molasses? — Yes, that's basically how commercial brown sugar is made; Drake has a video, KNF Sugar vs Molasses, explaining the ratios.
- 1:05:27 Does water temperature matter when making IMO? — Use warm water around 70-80 degrees, cold water slows microbe growth and anything over 100 degrees risks cooking them.
- 1:06:05 How do you use KNF to control moss on fruit trees? — Paint a slurry of IMO, seawater, and oatmeal onto the mossy bark to ease sunburn and help it heal.

9:00 Hey, aloha. Welcome to Pure KNF Office Hours with myself, Dr. Drake, bringing you some live questions and answers during this, you know, office hours based on what I used to do in school where people would say, hey, you know, we've had this class and come to the office hour and ask me questions, learn more.
9:45 so a happy year here tuning in February 27th 9 a.m here Hawaii standard time and just yeah I was sorry I might have been a few seconds late because I was just getting these questions together but wanted to start off today with a little bit of the I Ching which today is dispersion or dissolution and it says, disperse hard attitudes with gentleness. So the hexagram Juan comes to indicate there are rigidity and harshness present either in yourself or others and that they should be dissolved now for the benefit of all. Whenever we fall into a negative state such as judgment,
10:33 anger, fear, anxiety, or desire. Our attitude becomes structured and inflexible. As long as we remain in this condition, we cannot receive the assistance of the higher power. Therefore, if we wish for a return to good fortune now, we must take steps to dissolve the hardness. The image of Juan is that of a warm spring wind steadily dissolving winter ice. This is meant to teach us that through perseverance and gentleness, rather than aggressiveness, we overcome what is hard. The I Ching counsels the use of religious forces now.
11:17 Employ music, prayer, meditation, a common project, or some other form of sacred concentration or ceremony to release the pent-up energy in yourself and others. Allow harsh and unforgiving feelings to be carried away by the song of a flute, the reverberation of a drum, or the sound of wind through the trees. In your mind's eye, see where the flow of positive energy is blocked, and then imagine this place as an ice flow, breaking up in a thawing river. Until the inflexibility is removed, there can be no unity, either within your own spirit, with others, or with the sage.
12:06 Remember that inferior emotions are hard, whereas the attitudes of the superior person, acceptance, detachment, modesty, innocence, and equanimity, have a quality of softness to them. By returning to this now, you ensure your own good fortune. So, yeah, so dissolving all that harshness, any bad feelings we have. Talk about, you know, one way to do that is through natural farming, dissolving hard, compact soil by putting microorganisms deep in there, by feeding them, you know, a common project such as bringing the earth back to life.
12:57 Hey, what's up, George? What could be better than the natural farmers all working together to do this, right? And setting aside the harshness of our ego. You know, sometimes working together with folks, not always, uh, not always the easiest different egos come up. Different people want to do these different things. Certain people put other people down, trying to, trying to climb up to be the best, the king of this, the king of that, um, the father of this, the father of that. Oh, but I've been doing, you know, this, so, so I'll, I'll jump into questions here in a minute,
13:42 But this week for me, I've been just on the edge teaching natural farming for like the past three weeks and just, oh man, my farm goes up, goes down, but I really need time to just do maintenance. Like this last week, I finally had some time fixed both my sprayers, which I use, in case you're interested. I use a Maruyama MS-75E, which is a little weed whacking engine, little unit about this big that I can put two hoses into whatever size tank I want. So I usually make like a 35 gallon trash can of maintenance and maintenance solution, which is food, cleanser, medicine and structure.
14:36 Right. Put those in there, diluted properly and then spray those out. And I just fix the Maruyama. It it's it's exhaust port screen was clogged with carbon. And just, I think that thing had tipped over and the fuel didn't burn right. And it got clogged up. And then the bolt seized. So I had to get out the, what is that? Like an angle grinder with a little metal cutter and cut the bolts off. And then pull them out and then re-tap new bolts in. And what a bummer. But hopefully this time it won't get seized up.
15:16 And then, um, so I use that for my garden on foot. It has, it has about a 25 foot or maybe a 50 foot hose. And, um, and that enables me to make a tank in the center and then just walk around and walk through everything. And I'm not carrying a bunch of water on my back. I just have the spray nozzle in my hand and a little, um, you know, um, tube to, to hose to, to carry with me. So I got that Maruyama running really well, which is great. Cause that helps me get all the garden done. And then I also now got my tractor sprayer going, which, um, I had,
15:59 I think, I think I might've run it a little dry. Um, cause when, when it was low, I was on an angle and going and I burst one of the diaphragms so the oil and water was mixing through the diaphragm and it was um you know so I was able to fix that and get um so now I got both my tractor spur and my on foot spur going so I was just telling Suze when I woke up this morning because we were talking about some other folks in natural farming that are doing things and how to work together. And really this dispersion is coming through because I really want to work with certain folks
16:41 and share and do these things. It's just been challenging organizing all this stuff. But my number one goal for this year, moving forward into the year of the tiger, it's almost the first little bit of the month of I kind of go by the Chinese New Year versus the American New Year um so you know is is to spray the farm I really really really really want to do it every week no excuses rain or shine get out there and spray like 99.9% of the farm every week because I know what's going to happen is my entire farm is going to look like the plants
17:30 are fake. They're going to be so beautiful, so shiny, so amazing that they're going to look like I coated wax on them. When I start getting that cleanser out there and it gets the wax to come out thicker and all the plants just shine, that's what's going to make the difference. And I've been slacking this last little bit of time, especially with my sprayers down, teaching, trying to do all kinds of other things, just haven't found the time to do that. So switching what we're doing here on the farm of making different income through tourism now that that's
18:09 coming back and switching that and then spraying the farm because I know that's going to make the difference for me. And one of the challenges here in Hawaii is the market. You know, I can grow amazing stuff, but then who's going to buy it and who even knows what good food is these days here. So may start making flour and selling it to you guys out online, people that do respect and understand the quality, the difference, the nutrient density, all these things that are in natural farming and expand my horizons and just do direct to consumer. You know,
18:44 So if you are interested in buying, like we have some dried bananas and also have some cassava, which is like yucca or manioc. It's known all around the world, but we make that into flour. So if you are, let me know. That way I can start to kind of get that marketing together and just kind of test in the water right now. Are you interested in remotely buying our, you know, pure KNF farm food all the way out where you're at and get you some of the best stuff? Um, so anyway, good, good intro, good thing. Dissolve any harshness, get into it and get soft.
19:22 And, um, I want to talk to you guys a little bit about this. Uh, I got a question from Mike over here and, um, saying thanks for, for doing these things. Um, he's planning on making the nine solutions and a new outdoor garden. And he'll probably do some Jadam to get the quick microbe application in. And he's saying, is there anything specific I do when preparing a grow space to use with KNF? So we just did, we just prepared a garden bed in front of the house, which was a bed that was kind of abandoned when I had a bunch of pigs break into my yard and tear
20:08 up my whole gardens. And pigs can be quite devastating and quite heartbreaking. So we kind of let it go wild for a while in hiatus. Now that I have them fenced out, which I've had them fenced out for almost a year now, but getting back into the flow, we just prepared some garden beds and what we did first was we did the soil prep so I used my BCS with my power ridger and I was able to drive it through and the thing basically throws dirt to either side and makes furrows so I ran that through and made nice raised beds they're about three feet a little
20:48 less than three feet wide. Um, then next thing I did was come in with, um, some biochar that I soaked in fish amino acid. So I soaked it in the can of fuel because can of fuel, if you call it fuel, it makes sense. If you call it fish amino acid, it, you know, it's like, why did you soak it in fish? But if you call it fuel, you totally understand. I added fuel to the charcoal, which then gave the foundation for that charcoal to hold that fuel and then slow release it to the garden bed. So then I put IMO four over the top and then I came in with maintenance solution
21:28 plus minerals and protectors. So, and watered that in and that's the standard formula. But then since I was doing a class and I had a bunch of folks here, we also made some disgusting cheap Jadam microbe solution and watered that on top of that as well, entrenched all that in. And now the soil, when you touch it, it actually had like a little crust. The microbes are starting to really build that soil texture from what I just, um, kind of destroyed and tilled up and it's starting to go. So I always, you know, using the, the, um, Jadam microbe solution,
22:11 also known as disgustingly cheap microbes is always a good solution for building good soil foundation, getting those together. But also I want to get the micro, the KNF microbes of, you know, like what master Cho would call IMO four in there and, um, and the biochar, it really makes a difference. And so getting those together, then I covered it with some black plastic. I know last week I was talking about that and someone was like, don't do it. but I did it and I'm going to burn little holes in those and plant the cabbages in there and then
22:46 do another bed where I just do cover crops of the cabbages and I'm going to do a comparison between the two and try to grow a bunch of cabbages to make a bunch of kimchi and delicious food. Um, so anyway, that's kind of what I do to start a garden bed and get those things up. Um, hey what's up stonemason how's it from indiana like that you guys are uh tuning in and checking these things out so there's a question here any thoughts on gemstones and crystals yes yes yes yes yes yes um if you start to look up what gemstones are they're like highly
23:29 concentrated minerals and they're in these forms that are just um off the hook amazing so what do i do with gemstones what do i do with crystals i put those into my bacterial mineral water situation um so hang on one sec i'm gonna go grab it it's right outside i'll be right back okay so if you guys um this this here is an interesting contraption that i made
24:22 And actually, the instructions for how to do this and what I did is on naturalfarminghawaii.net, and it's under the Vortex Brewer. But since we're here, I just wanted to show you what I've set up here. And so this is like one of those water containers that you buy. You know, just set it on those things and be full of water, get fresh water into your thing. I set it up so that it comes down into this, what is this, inch and a half pipe here. And I just used ABS. You could have used PVC. I don't know why I used ABS, but the water goes into here,
25:05 comes down. Right here is where I put in an air pump. So an air pump is pushing air into here. When the water comes down and the air comes here, the bubbles drive the water up this tube, all the way up to the top of this tube, and then on top of this is placed a bucket. And this bucket goes right in here with this little nozzle, like so, sitting in here like this, And then on top of this, has a thing, pipe, so that this comes back. So get it far enough away.
25:52 You can see it. Maybe this way. Okay. So this whole system is coming around and creates a loop. And what happens is the water flows around that loop. So yeah. So the water flows around that loop. Okay, so it goes around the top. So what's in the bucket on the top right here, besides having my input nozzle on here, are a bunch of crystals. so into here this is some glacial rock that Iceman gave me from Alaska
26:40 then there's other this kind of crystal-ish rock some this rock has a bunch of cow mag in it not sure what I should look it up what it is and then some elven rock in here and all these rocks and then I put a bunch of crystals and all kinds of good stuff in there and all those rocks what happens is as the water circulates around it goes down into that bottom tank it vortexes around in the bottom tank and then it's pumped back up by the air and it falls from here to here and it hits those crystals and as it splashes down and it hits them with quite a lot of force the crystals are
27:25 able to pull the water in the crystals and the bacteria and stuff that starts to grow on there because there's actually, once I run it for a bit, there's biofilms that grow on there and they're actually solubilizing those crystals just at the small amount. Like I don't need a whole bunch of it because they're so concentrated, but just that small amount of the biofilms growing, solubilizing the water hitting, that extra oxygen pulling those crystals out, which looks like it's a little bit laggy when when I was showing that stuff and demonstrating it so if you do want to
27:58 see the whole video again it's at naturalfarminghawaii.net and I show about how to build this vortex brewer and what I did and which pieces I used and all that but that's how I'm using a bunch of crystals is put them in there run that thing run that machine for quite a while and what quite a while I mean about about 18 hours is prime of running it and all of a sudden all those crystals and all those things are in the water and they start to circulate around. And now I'm getting the most benefit out of those crystals. Not only that high vibes and like some, you know,
28:34 some good hippie stuff. And so what I recommend you do is go to like a gem dealer or somebody who has rocks like that and ask them for their broken ones. Ask them for the ones that are sharp, that are smashed, that no one doesn't have much other value for like, you know, what other things people use crystals for. And those sharp edges are thinner and easier for the biology to break down. So as it's hit with that and it circulates around and that whole system goes, you end up getting a bunch of that material into your water, which then you can water out and get phenomenal
29:08 results. I also drink the water. And one time my friend, it was like trippy. It was as if like we are traveling through space and, um, he was talking about crystal waters and, um, archangels and all this wild stuff. And, um, it's, it's, uh, it's amazing to drink that biologically active water. However, don't, I'm not saying you should do that. Please don't. Um, but I do, um, if it smells good and all the other checks and balances. So if, unless you're a professional, don't drink it. But anyway, that's this system. I've said it for a couple of years now, but I
29:49 wanted to get it set up so it's just near my house and that is my drinking water becomes that system because why drink other water when you have access to crystal water, right? So yeah, those things, great. And then Stone Mason was saying that he uses the crystals in his indoor plants. The IMOs love them. I just think that, you know, all these microbes and things are so sensitive to minor vibrations and crystals can change a lot of things. They're good. My buddy, when he's sprouting things, he puts crystals near them and he has phenomenal results. So we'll see on that.
30:35 yeah okay so getting some food out to you guys maybe we'll see we'll get we'll get that together cool and yeah um and then speaking of we may as well take a small ad break here no it's not an ad but um you know this um abdullah from nigeria is saying he's been tuning into all the episodes and um you know it's yeah this is so if you're interested um the peer knf foundation does run knfsupport.com and all these office hours are right here under office hours and they've been so generously um um table of contents not the last last couple episodes
31:25 we need to get to. But if you look at the rest of them here, um, now man, I guess we have, but they all have these, um, breakdowns of what, what we're actually talking about during the episode. So if you want to go to something like, you know, um, for instance, um, what kind of, you know, they're asking questions about these folks in Alaska. Um, but people talking about their, their experience with the protectors with how IMO4 should be stored, Gil Kerang Dang, all these different things, you know. So all these have
32:01 a table of contents associated with them and can go back to these past episodes. And again, that's brought to you by the Pure KNF Foundation. And it's available at knfsupport.com. So So, yeah. So, anyway, check those things out there. Let's see here. So, let's see. Okay. So, George was saying he just made a pea shoot fermented plant juice, as I recommended, and we'll start spraying the microgreens. Awesome. I think that was in a previous office hour. We were talking about that and making ferments from the things you're trying to grow.
32:49 So George is trying to grow microgreens. So why not make it from sprouts? Make a fermented plant juice from that. It's going to have everything it needed. And he got confused if I meant FAA or dose. So fuel, I don't know what you mean by that. So anyway, um, yeah. Um, and can I recommend for a square foot for pig pen for a KNF pig pen? Um, my, so my pig pen for farrowing is quite large and it's, it is a 10 by 12 or no, excuse
33:38 me it's a 12 by 14 but you're good to go a 10 by 12 or a farrowing pin and then um the reason it's larger like that most people farrow in a farrowing crate where they they put the mom in the cage and they force her to be down and um but it's not um in korean natural farming you want to give them more space because the moms actually raise them by themselves and then they won't step on the pigs and having that larger size makes it so that it happens naturally. If you wanted to do, raise 10 pigs up to market weight, you could just double that size.
34:21 So the square footage was 10 by 14, I don't know, 1,400 feet. And then, yeah. So anyway, double that size. um can i make egg yolk oil wcpwca with eggs that are not from chickens like eggs of ducks guinea fowl etc i think yes eggshells from any birds will work um chicken eggs tend to be bigger but go for it and uh we just made some egg yolk oil the other day and from about 30 eggs we rendered that much in the bottom of a jar. So real potent, good stuff.
35:11 And yes, you can make the KNF reproduction, which is also called water-soluble calcium. And you can also make KNF structure, which is also called WCP, which what the hell does that mean? and is used with apple cider vinegar with a mother, absolutely. Homemade vinegar works really well to make those things. Okay, so Stull Mason is asking, what do you use to make a wedding agent in a normal five-gallon bucket work?
35:57 um yes so if you're using hdpe plastic um which is like that so-called food grade even though plastic is always messing with our our bodies and stuff um you it is heat resistant enough to make the wetting agent the um the koh potassium hydroxide is not going to hot enough to melt your five-gallon bucket. So we make it regularly in HDPE plastic. And then Abdulie is asking, can I keep calcium and calcium phosphate outside the fridge, maybe in a cupboard, and for how long? Yes. Those are both shelf-stable at room temperature.
36:44 However, if you are using a living mother, like you said before, with an apple cider vinegar, you may want to pasteurize those and just heat them up. Just like not boiling, but just heat them up. Just I don't know what what pasteurization is, what temperature, but heat those up just a little bit so that they don't grow mothers and continue to grow. I've come back to my calcium sometimes and then there's a mother on top and it's because I've used the living vinegar. Most of the time I use like Heinz white vinegar because I'm just wanting that
37:24 acetic acid and I don't really care about the other stuff that's in there. And typically apple cider vinegar for me is much more expensive. So when I'm making a large volume of the calciums or calcium phosphate, I'll use those and not get that mother to grow. Okay, and for human consumption, how do we take WCA, WCP? Well, first off, consult your doctor because they're probably going to tell you not to do this and they'll have true medical advice. my anecdotal stuff of what I do and I can't make a recommendation for you but what I say I do
38:10 is just drinking about a spoonful a day of each into water and a lot of water to dilute it because it tastes kind of bad by itself it kind of I don't know it gives me a little funky feeling if I just drink it by itself and it really helps to strengthen things up my bones my fingernails everything become very strong by drinking just like a teaspoon tablespoon probably a teaspoon is safer yep and thanks Hawaii Sustainable back to the gnarly tilling in plastic I'd love to hear from you how you deal with things and how much labor you spend and how you do it without it
38:56 Um, but, um, yeah, there's, you gotta make a decision somewhere and, um, appreciate the troll though. Um, what could be the result of fermenting egg yolk with brown sugar? I have no idea. Never done that. Um, not sure what would happen. um any ideas on how to utilize weeds in natural farming yep weeds are your friends and either you know managing them to keep them out of your crops but anytime you pull them put them into a barrel fill that barrel with water that will rot after three to four days maybe a week the longer you
39:44 let it go the more it breaks down the stinkier it gets um and that you can spread that water out as a food it's just a cheap gross i call it disgustingly cheap food is a way to do it um yep an eyewitness is saying hdpe what's up eyewitness i'm glad you're back in florida man hope hope everything worked went well on your trip and all that it's good to be with you last week um but yeah now eyewitness came out here got trained up and now he's like the dude in florida man you want to find someone that knows natural farming i would check out thomas and he's gonna
40:23 he's gonna be working with his church to get a little bit of the natural farming going in florida and spreading those things out so thank you stone mason appreciate you kicking down with some super chats. And, um, it's always nice to get, um, feel like my Sunday is supported and appreciate you. And all you've been every, every week been kicking down, man. So I appreciate it really makes a difference for me. And I witnessed the other day was like, man, that's when, when he was here, he was like, man, that was a lot of work to do that. And I'm like, yeah,
40:55 you know, and every week showing up. So every time I get a donation back and, um, feel, feel that reciprocation, man, it's, it's good. But if you're just out there, you know, you can, donate to me or just do natural farming spread it change the world make your place a better healthier thing because our ocean is all connected and yeah grow pro you guys man thank you nourishing the show keeping it going and um yeah re-watching these things putting them out as a library of something good um yeah and and eyewitness also reinforcing that idea with the vinegar without
41:34 the mother and just using the other stuff. And that's because he came out here to learn. So he can probably host an office hours just as well as I can at this point. I love passing on the knowledge, training up other folks, getting that together. And unfortunately, I don't have any classes listed anymore. And I'm not sure I'll be teaching at all here at the farm unless it's by demand. So if you do want to come out here and you are serious, send me an email. You can also email me questions for this that I can get to later. It's drake, D-R-A-K-E, at pureknf.org.
42:15 So reach out if you do want to come out here and train and do all that, but kind of switching how the farm's going. So, okay. Yeah. So talking about the JLF. Yeah. I just call it disgustingly cheap food for those foods. Let's see. Every time I touch the chat, it scrolls down. So I apologize. Where can we buy your book? Hard copy has been sold out at the website. Yep. I haven't been pushing out hard copies because I've been in the process of updating the book each time it gets better. But I do think I am close to having an edition. And now that I have a little bit more
42:59 time based on how we're switching the farm, I do want to spend more time to get that done and get it out and get it, you know, inexpensively to you guys, all these recipes and all these things. and I just found out someone else was pirating my book and selling it which is crazy so and thanks geologigraph for that kick down man I appreciate it it's first time I've seen you here today or in the show but appreciate these things what do I look for a spot when I do an IMO collection, Mike's asking. And what do I do? I look for, I like to collect around bamboos.
43:49 Almost always they look healthy. I also look for bananas. I'm also looking for deep leaf litter accumulation. So if I'm going into a forest, I don't want to collect around pine needles, but where there's big broad leaves that are decaying on the ground, usually you start digging around under those and you'll find a real nice soil texture where you start digging into it. Instead of the soil being flat, it's turned into these balls, like as if it's tiny pebbles and stones in there. That is an indicator of good soil microbes, good things that are growing that
44:22 that's the same soil condition you want to happen in your field. When you get those balls to ball up, it's because the bacteria and the fungus is rolling it up into a ball and that's what's creating soil texture, which is bringing air, water, and everything you need into the soil. So I look for really healthy trees. The healthier, the better, and a little bit higher altitude is preferable. Try not to gather it from a lower altitude, meaning like, you know, 50 to 100 feet is a fair amount for microbes to adapt to. So try to gather it from about 50 to 100 feet higher than
45:00 where you're at. And those are the things I look for. They're pretty simple, you know, less disturbance, all those things. And the Goofman is all about this. He knows all these things. You guys are amazing. Thanks for answering in the comments. You guys get to it before I do. I got to switch up how I do these things and just be more answering the questions right when they get here. I tend to like get stuck on one question and explain it a whole bunch, but that's good. Um, okay. And how do I transform sandy soil into a growing medium? And the main thing with sandy
45:39 soil is getting more organic material, organic matter in there. Um, and then getting, and then just using the microbes as normal, um, that combination of getting the organic material in there, the micros will start to break that down. So one way, if you're on a sandy soil, I always do pile tech. So instead of digging down, going into the soil, I'm piling wood chips and I take about a tractor bucket or two and pile them on the surface and then make a pile, inoculate that and then plant around it. So if you're in sandy soil, those microbes, anytime it rains, anytime
46:21 it's leaking out all that humic acid and things breaking down from that pile of wood chips is leaking down into that sandy soil and the roots will reach under into that organic matter and so instead of trying to dig into your sandy soil and incorporate all this organic matter in there which is going to you know a bunch of digging tilling all that heavy back breaking stuff just make a pile on the top and let that and then plant your tree kind of or plant kind of shallow and it'll reach under and into that pile. And so that's typically what I do here. And it's really,
46:56 you know, it's adapted to the tropics for sure, because I get so much rain, but similar concept will work anywhere of building a pile of organic matter, inoculating it, planting around, and don't worry so much about your soil below. Focus on building your soil above and go up from there and build up and no matter if you got clay soil you got sandy soil all those things as you build up the plants will reinforce each other and grow into this amazing substrate and it's way less effort on your part way less effort on everyone's part to get this good stuff happening um so george
47:38 just saying regarding the microgreens, uh, he has, um, the can of protectors and the can of food at the moment. What ratio should I use for spraying daily? And, uh, um, so using your can of protectors, if you dilute those one to a thousand, as it said, um, it's, that's, it's potent enough. If you, you know, there's no need to put it at a higher dilution, um, unless you were to clean up molds or something and then dilute down to maybe like one to 300. Um, and the same for the fermented plant juice, if you're combining, you know, dilute at one to 500, it's, it's pretty standard recipes.
48:20 And if you're starting there and you're diluting there, it's, it's best to stick to that to start. Um, and then once you really fine tune things, you maybe change it from there, but, um, almost all the ratios are the same. And, and those, you know, if you go to, to, um, KNF support and, um, check this out here. Um, you know, if you're interested in the book and all that at KNF support.com right here is the recipe book. And so if you click here, um, download this recipe book, It takes you to naturalfarminghawaii.net, which is my other website here.
49:03 But you can download the recipe book here, which gives you all the formulas. And then also, if you're curious about the formulas and those things, I also have an app on iOS and Android. um which bang at that but um can't really see it here but um but there's an app where you just plug in the numbers of the gallons you want to dilute hit enter and it gives you all the all the dilutions properly to what things should be um and that's it's a really easy way to to do that um yeah and you're talking about uh IMOs biochar and organic matter absolutely
49:52 those are the things. Um, and so, so there's a question from black space force TV. What's up? Um, of what kind of organic matter should I use? So I want to make a distinction. There's something that they call organic material, and then there's organic matter. Organic material is something like wood chips, grass clippings, something that's just organic material. Organic matter, however, is more like compost where the humics and fulvics are broken down and those things, it's more like a compost and that would be like more like organic matter. So sometimes people
50:35 will talk about organic matter content and those are the stable humics and humus that's in the soil versus organic material, which is just like stuff like sticks and leaves and whatever I chopped up on the top. So if you're talking about what kind of organic matter should you use, there's really only one, which is it's like finished compost of something that's broken down. So having that distinction between there are two different words that are very similar, organic matter, organic material, but what kind of organic matter should you use is probably compost. What kind of organic
51:11 material should you use it's whatever you got around and i build those piles and inoculate them especially getting the knf protectors in there and inoculating it'll break down really fast and really good and um really start to build that in situ kind of compost that'll generate organic matter from your organic material um yep and eyewitness is good on those dilutions man you i'm so glad you came out here thomas it's it's like you're you're akamai man which which means like knowledgeable and smart and good on this so it's great yeah what's up tara lee if
51:54 this is the tara lee that i know that's the alaskan masseuse um hit the thumbs up if you like what you're hearing yeah smash that subscribe maybe i was thinking about it maybe try grow my channel? I don't know. I don't, I don't really care. I mean, I do, I do because I want this message to get out to more folks, but, um, yeah. And so you're saying use sun hemp mix, polyculture, roller crimper, and no till alpaca. You, Hawaii Sustainable, send me some pictures in, in the email. I want to see what you got going and give you a shout out and show your
52:31 methods next time instead of talking about my stuff and you got a land pride no-till drill you must be on some you must have money for sure if you got a roller coaster and all these things maybe those tools are the right thing maybe a good good farmer a good size um it all depends on your size scale labor all these things what are your goals um so glad glad you're doing it right it sounds like you are doing it right. And since you know about Farmers Union, because you always talk about that, I'm sure you got this stuff.
53:08 And the free UH info. Yeah. And those University of Hawaii papers, that's actually worth mentioning here, is that those University of Hawaii papers, if I go, I believe this is here. let's see one sec before I say this stuff yeah so if you look at KNF support KNFsupport.com come up here under getting started and go to these tutorials you'll see that like if I click on this how to make KNF food you will see that it is the
53:54 University of Hawaii, College of Tropical Ag and Human Resources, University of Hawaii, Manoa. And right here, I'm actually listed as one of the authors here. Yeah, that's if you wanted to know my real name. There it is. And so of all these papers, these are great papers that we wrote with the university backing it. they tell you, you know, what is it, how to make it, how to collect, cut, what plants to use, all these things. And this was a thing that I worked with Mike DuPont and a few other natural farmers. And Mike DuPont actually did majority of this, really just only helped out with a few,
54:41 very small bit of this, but just to like endorse that this is correct how to do it. But the University of Hawaii free papers. I'm actually an author listed on there. So whether I wrote it or not is a collaboration. Mostly Mike wrote it, actually, if you really want to know. But yeah, so those papers are good. Those are at knfsupport.com. Again, under that how to do it page. Um, question here. Um, should I soak the biochar in IMO? Um, yep. Yep. If you make a liquid IMO tea, start to, um, bubble that, make it nice, get that going. Um, it, it really,
55:30 the imot really helps get the fuel in there get the imos in there they can live in the biochar and if you're just putting biochar in the soil they will migrate into there especially if you've soaked the biochar in food and and and fuel the the microbes will go in there and they'll actually live in your biochar you'll come out to it and you'll see all these white mycelium right around your biochar it's pretty pretty good stuff um so that's a good idea um don't soak it too long you don't want to have bad microbes in there so just keep it aerobic keep it you know 100 um uh
56:07 so francis is asking i'm having a hard time finding brown sugar in bulk where i live could i make my own by mixing bulk white sugar with blackstrap molasses i have heard most brown sugar on the market is made that way um yes absolutely that makes sense to me um i also just want to show you here. If you're interested in sugar and you go here, this is my YouTube channel. So if you just click in the description below, click on my name, it'll take you to my channel. But also you can reach this by going to knfvideo.com and it redirects you here. So knfvideo.com
56:53 It takes you here. And then you'll notice in one of my playlists here, there's this K&F sugar versus molasses. So this was a lecture that I gave in the Philippines, and it's about a half hour long. But this thing has all these chapters here. And you can see, you know, what is raw sugar, muscovado. Yeah, and I actually should probably make this a little bit more clear, this table of contents, but, you know, what is raw sugar? And it tells you the difference between, you know, here at this point, it's telling you the process between. So if you look at this,
57:38 let's see here. Oh, where's the full diagram? Anyway, let's see. Okay, here. So it's showing you this diagram of how sugar is refined of what comes out. And then, you know, they're taking raw sugar, they separate into white sugar and molasses. So if you combine those back, you can make brown sugar. So this video here, can of sugar versus molasses goes through this whole thing. It's something I made to explain to the Philippines why we're using brown sugar versus molasses, because they would always tell me, you know, here in the Philippines, we have less money. So
58:14 molasses is cheaper. So we use molasses. And I say, even though you're spending a little bit more to get raw sugar or brown sugar, your product is not the same. If you use molasses, you're not getting the same outcome because you've separated out this white sugar and molasses and the molasses has a higher moisture content, which tends to rot and corrupt your solution. So I made this to explain it to those folks over there, just in a way of saying, hey, here's the difference because when I was in the Philippines every solution I tasted tastes like
58:49 vinegar and it's because they use molasses instead of brown sugar to try to stabilize these things these their KNF solutions and it just it does not work after a while of storage they all turn to vinegar so I put that thing out on sugar it's hugely vital so if you're curious about sugar at all you want to learn more that's where you go to that video check it out it's right on my featured videos. Um, so too many tourists. Um, could I get access to the OG info in the Korean language? Um, I do have some books that are in Korean. So if you wanted to get those books from
59:30 me, check it out. Um, send me an email. I'll correspond with you, see what we can do. Um, yeah yeah thanks thanks eyewitness it was great having you here man uh let's see coming down hopefully not skipping any of these and if you really want your question answered quick man throw it in a super chat i'll get to it right away because um yeah i'm getting you get some priority there otherwise i'm just scrolling through and still appreciating it from you hey thanks jennifer awesome that you're kicking down with a sticker so nice to see you here thanks for being part of the foundation and helping out
1:00:11 in so many ways doing the table of contents and all that um okay and so um in someone the goof man is talking about i think raw sugar where it comes in those grains. And that's like sugar in the raw, like that brand of sugar. And I do find that, yeah, those crystals are too big. And so I run it through a blender first to make it real fine, because otherwise trying to ferment with huge crystals, it doesn't stick against the plant material well enough. But if you're just super saturating something like that,
1:00:51 the other one should, the big crystals should work fine as they dissolve into your solution. and so eyewitnesses saying if you're adding molasses then you'll be adding moisture to your sugar the reason for sugar creates osmotic pressure what you need is the dryness of the sugar yep and eyewitness just so you know adding the molasses adds some of the minerals back so if you do balance it just right and do add just a tiny bit of the molasses in it will add the minerals back that have been extracted from the white sugar so it can help you and um there's a reason
1:01:26 for adding a little bit of the molasses back. And it's explained pretty well in that video. So do check it out and see what's going on. And it is Tara that I know. Hey, how's it? Hope things are going good for you. And if you're in Alaska, maybe hook up with Gerard and you guys can do, I'm not sure if you're in Anchorage or not, but sorry, he's got some folks and homer now look up um iceman and donna ray out at oceanside farms wherever you are up there find the natural farmers join them be and grow the movement um okay so
1:02:04 yep and cheaper cheaper cheaper okay so for a 20 by 14 for one feeder pig or 10 by 14 for two does it make any difference if you use hardwood or conifer to bury it under okay so i think wesley here is talking about pig pens and he's saying um uh a 20 by 14 it actually a 24 by 14 should accommodate 10 pigs to market weight 20 so 20 feet by 14 feet should accommodate between eight to ten pigs my 10 by 14 is for one big um bearing pig where i just have a mama in there
1:02:52 so and does it matter um i you know i don't i'm not sure about conifer logs i i think those would work just fine i wouldn't use it for the wood chips on the top because the conifer might react kind of weird with the pig i would use some hardwood but bearing the logs of conifer should be fine. I used rose apple, if that makes any difference. People use coconut around here, but those are what are long and straight and easy to get. Any wood underneath should work really well. Yep. And then, Francis, you're talking about the mixture to make the brown sugar back with that
1:03:31 tablespoon, and those things sounds about right. Oh, there was a whole bunch of comments coming in. Okay. Okay. Yep. So these things, you guys are on it with the sugar again. Watch that video. Yep, yep, yep. It's all good reading through. What's up, Oklahoma? How are you guys? Red Eagle. What's up? I should get Tyler's Coffee Place and let you guys know what it is in OKC. Okay. If I grow a farm. coal oh okay organic farm grown coal so you're growing sugar cane if you sugar oh oh you're talking about using organic sugar yep if you can get it use it but
1:04:23 um it's expensive all those things and they do use gnarly roundup on sugar just before harvest on all these things so those are always good okay and maui no kaoi yeah yeah yeah if you can get the sugar mill going again with organic sugar man i'd be stoked sustainable man that was one goal of mine and i hope that works um cool and yeah sharing it with local permaculture i think knf and permaculture two peas in a pod man those two together we're gonna make make it good and hoi sustainable haleakala chapter shout out to reba um yeah um if you have sugarcane should be
1:05:13 good to go you're calling it okay so you guys still talking about sugar that's okay um okay so your um black space force tv is asking when he's making imos does it matter if the water is cold or not um i would use warm or like like warm water like something you want to bathe in for best results if you're getting cold water it's just like you jump in cold water you're not you're going to want to get out pretty soon but if it's nice and warm you're going to get even better reaction. So if it's not, if it's cold, you're going to get slow microbe growth. If you
1:05:51 throw a bucket heater in there and get it, get it up to where it's, you know, room temperature or something, you'll, you'll probably get even better results. You don't want to have it hot because you'll grow things. So don't make it hotter than like, I don't know, a hundred degrees or something. I would, in fact, I would, I would say like 70 to 80 degrees is around where you want to be at if you make it hotter than that. Okay, so we've got a couple more questions here, and I appreciate all the super chats. Just want to thank you guys for helping support the show.
1:06:22 I see this sticker. It says, you're amazing. I really feel like that when I get these things. Yeah, appreciate it from you guys. So how do you use KNF to control moss on fruit trees? Now, this is a great question. So, you know, if you got moss and it's growing on your tree, sometimes it's caused by sunburn. So if your plant doesn't have enough oxygen, it drops leaves and then the bark then gets hit by the sun and then you get moss. Other times it's just because it's so wet and rainy and there's all kinds of reasons for moss. One thing you can do, take IMOs.
1:07:01 now make like oatmeal so that it's in mixing oats so it becomes sticky you're using the oats as a sticker like something sticky it's also a food source and then get that and actually put it onto the moss on the bark so the IMOs the other thing that really helps the the bark get rid of the mold is the minerals so that's seawater so IMOs and seawater make a make a slurry of that with um with some oatmeal and then get it and almost paint it onto the moss and it'll help that the IMOs will help to to ease that sunburn and the minerals will help that bark to regrow where it
1:07:41 doesn't feel like it needs that um that it's almost like you know when you get sunburn you have peely skin that's what the that's what the moss is for for the tree so trying to soothe that and get it pasted on there so it stays and some sort of spray where you can stick it on there um and i should do some good experiments with that to see um and show actual before and afters with that because i do have a tree that has some moss and mold on it so that'd be nice okay so um black space forest tv is asking how do i keep deer and rabbits out of my garden
1:08:22 dogs, fences, traps, get hungry. Other than that, if you're looking for some way to like deter them naturally with something, you know, something stinky, there's ways to spread different herbs and things that you could spray that would deter them because the flavor would change, you know, hot chili pepper water or something like that. There's those solutions, but largely, you know, how do I deal with pigs here? I fence them out and I hunt them and I eat them and they know that if they come in here, um, I'm coming after them. And so that's, that's how I deal with it is
1:09:04 physically just, um, you know, ferment them, turn them into a food product, make it so it's something actually my garden draws them in so they get closer so that I can have tasty pork. so benjamin here is raising 40 new egg layers on the can of system amazing results the healthiest babies you've ever seen and that's right if you raise them the can of way there's a whole method of having the chicks in the small box where they run back and forth their box expands and then you also help feed them the whole way up and it's true when we raise them that way we get amazing results
1:09:40 healthiest babies and they don't get the same respiratory disease which i just saw a news report that bird flu is spreading in america so switch to knf get the living floor get the air flow going through your your poultry operation raise your chicks to be strong build their intestines so that they can handle the food so they get more digestibility so your food goes more into building chickens than just wasting away and all these things so get into it you know and do these things. And so here finishing up today, we're about 10 o'clock for me,
1:10:17 hours about over, but I think I started a couple seconds late. So I'm just going to scroll through this chat, see if there's any more questions to get through here. Yeah. And just showing, showing your friends how to do this. It's really the best way to do it. you know getting getting these things out it's here we got a global community got all of us together love the knockout video awesome yeah he's got to get him into some natural farming for his horses um so yeah you guys talking about those things so oh yeah cool and you guys
1:11:00 one guys really seems like pretty woke in here going on the birth certificate death kind of thing check out john levi those guys i want to thank you guys for tuning in again if you want to make a tax deductible donation without having youtube take some of it and you want to donate directly to our foundation. That can be done, peerknf.org, peerknffoundation, peerknf.org. And way down here at the bottom, you can make a donation to our foundation if you want to do it that way. And or this website has a whole bunch of resources as well, but we really support
1:11:46 the kind of support as the question answer way of doing that, linking these two websites together. building out resources for natural farming. Anything you do helps us. We help you. Good relationship that way. I want to thank you for tuning in. And I'll see you next week Sunday. And I want to wish you guys a happy, happy week. And hopefully all your microbes go well. All the lactobacillus separates from the curds and um all that so thanks for tuning in tell your friends um share this around subscribe whatever you want to do you know or not it's your choice
1:12:33 shout out to my friend auto walks for that one and uh just yeah appreciate you guys love you aloha long move the natural farmer and uh thanks aloha
