Quick LAB From Rice Bran, IMO for Fuel Spills, Chitosan vs WCA

Drake opens with an I Ching reading on fellowship, then spends the first half asking listeners whether to turn Office Hours into a produced weekly podcast for 2025, syndicated to Spotify and Apple. He also tells the story of cows breaking through an electric fence after a fallen tree at 1 a.m., rounded up with his dog Heena and a sheep whistle.

On amendments: crab and lobster shell ferments make more chitosan than true water-soluble calcium. For fuel spills, IMO and LAB break diesel and gasoline down into sugar chains within about a week — Drake retells the story of a neighbor's truck bed cleaned spotless after IMO spilled on top of a diesel spill.

The group replays footage from Master Cho's chicken seminar: testing egg quality with a toothpick, selling eggs wholesale instead of direct to consumer, and taping over half a coop's roof vent to slow the chimney effect and hold heat and moisture in at night. Master Cho also demonstrates a fast LAB recipe: rice bran stirred into water, left to bubble and colonize, ready for pig and chicken feed without waiting on a milk ferment — though it isn't shelf-stable.

Questions answered

  • 21:44 Is crab/lobster shell ferment the same as water-soluble calcium? — No — lobster and crab shells mostly make chitosan (chidosan), not true water-soluble calcium.
  • 23:07 What's the lesson from the cows escaping through the electric fence? — After anything hits the fence, walk the entire line — a slack spot anywhere lets cattle push through.
  • 36:29 How did Master Cho judge egg quality? — He'd stick a toothpick into the yolk to show the difference in health and quality between eggs.
  • 38:43 Should I sell KNF eggs direct to consumers? — Master Cho's advice: sell wholesale through a middleman so you're not stuck doing the marketing yourself.
  • 40:20 How do you keep a chicken coop warm at night? — Tape over half the roof vent so it vents slower — a fully open vent's chimney effect sucks out heat and moisture.
  • 48:11 My garden got hit by jet fuel from a low flyover — how do I fix it? — Apply IMO or LAB — they break diesel and fuel oil into sugar chains and metabolize it, usually within a week.
  • 57:16 How do you make LAB fast without buying a lot of milk? — Stir rice bran into water and let it sit — it colonizes with LAB quickly, good for pig and chicken feed, but use it right away.
  • 1:02:01 Are minerals and microbes related? — Drake's own unproven theory: minerals are fossilized microbes, and microbes are activated minerals.
