IMO Animal Feed, Calcium Fixes, JADAM Pasture Revival
Drake opens with an I Ching reading on Hexagram 58, the Joyous Lake, then answers viewer questions. Blue-green mold on OHN ginger is fine, just cap it with vodka after the 3-5 day ferment. Fermented compost piles need bulk, 300 lbs works far better than 100-200 lbs. KNF Reproduction (water-soluble calcium) is fine to off-gas as long as it doesn't smell like rotten eggs. Can of Food has three categories: plant tips and shoots, unripe fruit and flowers, and ripe fruit. JMS and JLF should never be brewed into compost tea, just add them in at the end and never aerate.
Guest George, a beginner farmer with about 40 hectares and 100 goats, shares his no-dig garden beds built on cardboard and goat manure, mulched with straw, plus biochar he's making from an old roofing bin. Drake walks through storing finished solutions airtight once super-saturated, and recommends drenching diluted seawater plus disgustingly cheap JADAM microbes to rejuvenate George's roughly 24 acres of old pasture and plowed field, starting small before scaling with a boom sprayer.
Drake and George talk integrating IMO4 into goat and pig feed so manure comes out as ready-inoculated microbe pellets, and Drake shares his own practice of feeding most of his IMO4 to animals rather than spreading it on land. They cover a bucket heater to keep microbe brews near 18°C in cold weather, and a demo comparing two 35-gallon buckets of fish waste, one dosed with IMO4 and one plain, where the untreated bucket reeks and swarms with maggots and the IMO bucket has no smell at all.
Near the end, Drake reviews George's KNF Reproduction batches on camera: a milky top means leftover eggshell membrane wasn't fully cooked off, so skim it, strain through a t-shirt, and use that batch within a month. Finished calcium dilutes 1:1000, or 1:30 mixed with seawater, as a soil decompactor.
Questions answered
- 7:00 Blue-green mold appeared on ginger during OHN fermentation, still safe to finish? — Yes, pour vodka on it to neutralize it; ginger only needs 3-5 days to ferment.
- 8:38 Can fermented compost be made from a pile smaller than 300 lbs? — Bigger is better; a small pile doesn't give the core enough mass to heat up and react.
- 9:50 Should finished KNF Reproduction hiss with built-up gas when opened? — Not necessarily, some off-gassing is normal, just make sure there's no rotten-egg smell.
- 11:40 Are ripe oranges okay for Can of Food, or does it need citrus shoots? — Ripe fruit is one of three valid categories along with shoots and unripe fruit/flowers, and shoots can come from any plant.
- 13:10 Can JMS and JLF be added into a brewed compost tea? — No, don't brew them together, add both in at the very end and never aerate them.
- 20:30 White stuff appeared on exposed fish heads while making FAA fish amino acids. — That's normal, every batch of fish amino acids looks a little different.
- 22:50 How should finished KNF solutions be stored? — Once a solution is super-saturated, store it under an airtight lid so it doesn't evaporate.
- 23:30 How do you rejuvenate about 24 acres of pasture and plowed field with KNF? — Drench with diluted seawater to remineralize, drill in fish, and apply disgustingly cheap JADAM microbes.
- 28:26 Are JADAM microbe solutions compatible with KNF for building the soil food web? — Yes, JADAM drenches feed anaerobic microbes deep in the soil while KNF works aerobically from the top down.
- 30:00 How can KNF be integrated into raising goats and pigs? — Put IMO4 into the feed so the manure comes out as inoculated microbe pellets.
- 46:00 How does KNF help with rising fertilizer prices? — Fertility can come from microorganisms and fermentation instead of energy-intensive chemical fertilizer.
- 48:25 How do you make microbe solutions when it's near freezing outside? — Use a bucket or pipe heater to keep the water warm enough, around 18°C, while brewing.
- 53:44 How do you prove to a skeptic that IMO actually works? — Split fish waste into two buckets, one dosed with IMO4 and one plain; the IMO bucket has no smell and no maggots while the plain one reeks and swarms.
- 57:49 What do you do about smelly manure or pathogens on the farm? — Always mix manure with IMOs or KNF Protectors before use, never spread or brew it fresh.
- 59:17 Why is a batch of KNF Reproduction (water-soluble calcium) turning milky on top? — Leftover eggshell membrane from incomplete cooking; skim it, strain through a t-shirt, and use that batch within a month.

2:00 um um
4:00 I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
6:55 Hey, aloha and welcome to Office Hours for April 10th, 2022. And happy that you're tuning in here. Myself, Drake, for the Office Hour, answering any Korean natural farming questions you have and building a global Korean natural farming community together with each other. So thanks for being here. I want to start off with a little bit of I Ching. And let me know if the volume's good and all that in the chat. Just kind of switch my setup. I actually got like a standing desk kind of thing going here now. You can see Sue's in the back all frustrated working on something.
7:42 No, no, no. I'm going to receive I Ching. So, yeah. So, anyway, I wanted to start with some I Ching. and today is the joyous lake which is number 58 and it says true joy is experienced by those who are strong within and gentle without the hexagram tui comes to teach us how to take or how to come into possession of joy. In our search for success and happiness, we are prone to think that we must take aggressive actions to achieve them. The instructions of the I Ching is just the opposite.
8:33 Only those who practice innocence, acceptance, and detachment will inherit true joy in the world. We often see around us how forcible effort brings about what appears to be progress. Our egos tempt us to believe that these gains are lasting and valuable, but the truth is otherwise. Whatever is won by the desirous, ambitious, demanding manipulations of the ego will soon be lost. Others can be temporarily browbeaten into doing things our way, but only hearts won by friendliness and sincere goodwill are true over time.
9:24 The I Ching teaches us again and again that joy and success cannot be forced or stolen. They are achieved gradually but steadily by those who relate correctly to others and the divine power. To relate correctly means to steadfastly practice innocence, detachment, acceptance, modesty, and gentleness. Life is full of shortcuts, but this is the only route that leads to true joy. The image of the hexagram is that of two lakes joined together to keep from drying up.
10:10 It is an encouragement to us to join with like-minded friends now in the discussion and contemplation of higher things. If we engage in an ongoing conversation about proper principles with our friends, our relationship to truth is steady and our ego cannot seduce us into doubt, fear, and anxiety that lead away from true joy. In your heart, be firm to holding to what is good and honest and correct. In your thoughts and actions, be gentle and accepting. Those who persevere on this path will meet with true joy and lasting success.
10:59 so yeah i want to thank you for joining in and joy comes by joining with friends and contemplating you know the higher ideals which is kind of a premise behind what i'm what i'm doing here with this office hour and what i'm trying to get to you all is a lake to join together so that you know knowledge i have can flow evenly to fill up your lake over here you know if you have two mountains they could be different heights but if you have two lakes and they're truly joined then they should eventually equal out right and that's kind of like with our with our knowledge with knf and that is you know
11:47 um bringing how can i take what i know is this bucket of wealth that i've been given in hawaiian wealth is vai vai which is like water water so this bucket of water this bucket of wealth and then put it into this youtube tube and have it go through to you and have it equal out so that and then the things that you have that are knowledgeable that are awesome then also come through and even out and that we all come to this learning and understanding and sharing and experience true joy in the world right because we have brought the earth back to life
12:27 we've grown more nutrient dense food we've created better community and we've done all these things through korean natural farming or what i've been calling it recently which is like clean earth farming so yeah hope everyone is having a good sunday um so i got a couple questions here on the screen already in the chat and then i wanted to jump into a little bit of featuring george a little bit because he emailed me this week and sent me um a bunch of uh links inspiration and then some questions to get into so um so let's let's see
13:17 it says here our ohn is on day five fermenting with sugar our ginger has a blue green mold on the very top of the ginger under the mold is a crystallized sugary sugary layer and liquid is it still safe to finish and add with vodka? And the answer is yes. Just pour that vodka on there and the vodka will neutralize whatever is growing there to a degree. You know, even though the KNF medicine, as I call it, this tinctured alcohol has a bunch of alcohol in it. There's still actually microbes in there living, doing fermentation,
14:01 all these things happening. So, but pouring that alcohol on and finishing out that your ginger makes sense. Usually when I'm fermenting the ginger and things here, I only go three to five days. Ginger ferments really fast. If you notice, once you did that first part, you've made a can of food with ginger, basically mixed, you know, sugar with ginger together. And then you're waiting for that to ferment before you add the alcohol that becomes so liquidy and that is itself a good product um but yeah finish it off with about no problem there um and um e smg is asking
14:49 um good morning hey howdy um is if you can make a fermented mixed compost from something smaller than 300 pounds and probably a 300 pound pile, you know, 100, 200 pounds, 100 pound pile is like basically like, you know, that big, 200 pounds is that big, 300 pounds, you know, you do want to have your pile be big enough that you can get the core of this pile to actually react and get the microbes going so that it ferments in compost. If your pile is too small, there's not enough area for a fermentation reaction to happen. And so making a bigger pile, more area, more volume,
15:36 more moisture, more everything to help compost happen. So ferment and mix compost, the bigger, the better on that, as long as you can manage and turn it and keep it keep it going. and I can work on translating it later. I'm doing this, Soky, sorry, I'm doing it through StreamYard and I'm not sure how to translate it. Maybe if I went into YouTube Studio, I could figure that out. And Eyewitness, Thomas, how's it, Bridget? Good to hear from you. Should finished and poured off KNF reproduction, be giving that sound as if gas has built up when I open it.
16:24 Not necessarily. If it's really fresh, it might still be off-gassing, but just make sure that your KNF reproduction, because it's made from eggshells that have been toasted, just make sure there's not a rotten egg smell coming from it. That's kind of the main deal with that. If it's still off-gassing a little bit, um you know maybe some co2 still escaping um i i'm not entirely sure um usually i leave mine with just a loose lid um but sometimes i seal it tight and that is not off gassing so we'll see yeah hey yeah thanks thanks for the thing you know you can you can super chat if you want
17:03 or make a donation at um natural farming hawaii.net slash donate if you want to or buy the book or um or just, you know, enjoy this advice and put it to use and, um, all those things. Cause yeah. Um, you know, keeping our KNF growing, keeping our office hour going. So before, or let's see, I'll jump, I'll jump into this question. Um, yeah, the goof man saying the pile should be bigger. Yeah. The bigger, the better, you know, like getting a thing so you have microbes reacting in the center and composting and heaping
17:45 you know the right moisture the right everything for compost you really got to balance all that out um okay so m slavers asking is the ripe fruit oranges appropriate for a can of food if i understand my criteria for can of food plants. You need vigorous growing plant. Would green shoots of a citrus tree be better? Okay. So M. Slabber, there's three main categories. One category is plant tips. Okay. Young shoots. Category two is unripe fruit and flowers. Category three is ripe fruits.
18:30 okay so i'll go over that again shoots tips unripe fruit flowers and the third is ripe fruits okay those are your three categories for k-n-f food each of those correspond with you know early stage growth rooting allowing each of those correspond with the with the growth stage of your plant your animal your human, all those things, those nutrient requirements. But you can get it not necessarily, you don't have to get the tips from a citrus tree. You can get the tips from other plants growing around and spray it on your citrus tree.
19:16 This is how that thing kind of works. Okay, so Benjamin Fleming is asking if I want to add GMS. And JLF to my compost tea. How should this be done? It shouldn't. It's gross stuff, man. Just dump it by itself. Don't add it to something else. Just add it right at the end, right before you go to spray. Just add it in. Don't try to brew your microbe solution, your disgustingly cheap microbes. um you know man the other week i had this set up so that i could scroll side by side and show these recipes as we talk about it but if you don't know the recipe that i'm talking about
20:03 discussing like your microbes it's in the book um yeah and you don't want to aerate it yep it's an anaerobic thing okay cool so let me go here and i want to pull up um let's see okay yeah i'm gonna pull this up here and answer some questions here so george is asking um which by the way i i wanna um george has been watching the show for a couple couple weeks here and I just want to show he shared some things with me um of what he's doing
20:54 here and um check out his garden here you know he needs more than 84 followers so if you're watching this uh maybe it's because it's hard to type in in English but type this in uh maybe I'll put the link in the show notes there and um give him a follow man because he's doing some amazing things I was watching. He sent these videos over. It looks like this is his garden here. He's working with five other people to supply their food. Looks like they're making their own tools. All kinds of good stuff happening here. So I want to show. And then he sent me this video
21:40 on YouTube here as well. And I just watched it. And somewhere in here, let me go. Well, first off, they're having these amazing quesadilla things. I mean, so look at that. They're building community with, you know, I don't know, quesadillas making all this happen uh then there looks like they're building some soil here looks like they put down a bunch of cardboard and then they put these frames and then they're filling the soil in and probably amended soil here that looks like they're building up for some reason but interesting way to do it you know
22:26 if you have this type of soil bed here and then you put a bunch of imo on top of this it's just going to activate this whole system and whatever's growing here you know the roots probably as it gets moist it will penetrate through this cardboard and the cardboard will maybe also drop the worms but this type of thing here you put you know this this type of soil put it down put some manure type of stuff in there and put the IMOs on top of here water this in and water it for a couple weeks here and you'll this whole thing will come to life and be just great soil foundation for them
23:02 and he's saying that's goat manure with cardboard underneath and he doesn't have any imo yet since it's early spring um but just just take this and this is where you you just soak your jms and um you know just soak those microbes you can you can make those and and probably like it looks like it's cold where you are so but you can probably make that in about a week just to, you know, get into this. So that on his soil foundation, those things, you know, what they're building up. Let's see here. What else is he showing? I couldn't understand what language, what language are you talking in?
23:44 But looks like they had these garden beds. Looks like they're framing these things up. And then they have this access to this straw in the back. and at the end of the video they were mulching with this straw which i you know really recommend that so put some microbes um mulch with that straw put it in there um make it you know cover the soil i'm not sure it looks like maybe maybe that is what they're covering the soil with maybe it's some sort of um material thing there that they're covering it with um but let's see oh and
24:19 then also they're making biochar so they packed a smaller bin and then they lit this outer bin on fire and then they're putting the um this chimney on top to to make biochar which is you know biochar and imos and the can of solutions are are a mate made in heaven so after you're cooling your biochar off soak them with can of solutions do all that get it together oh it's it's old roofing that's out there yeah and so mulching with the the straw you know putting that down putting the microbes spraying these solutions uh getting these things it looks like you know you're gonna be super
24:59 successful with what you got you got these folks building this community all these happy folks learning you know um looks like when i was towards the end of the video here oh yeah and he made um So he is doing KNF there. So let's see. I want to watch this part of the video. They got little kids selling cookies maybe or eating cookies. I don't know. Seems good. And I want to play this last little bit because he's actually making some of the KNF solutions here. yeah so it looks like they're making the knf reproduction there then here's knf structure from the charred bones
25:56 yeah so check him out on facebook too there's this link there uh throw throw george some support with that together um so anyway those those are you know what he's doing but he also wanted to um ask a few questions and so uh let's dive into those here um oh cool yeah you made the bones in the kiln that's a really good idea and his mom's goat cheese cookies it sounds delicious man um so he's asking here let's see let's uh i can do this here okay so his questions is are that i made some knf um the fuel with three kilos of fish
26:53 as i recall and a 3.5 kilos of brown sugar over time some of the some white stuff appeared okay that's that's fine um i presumed it is from the exposed fish heads that are stuck out even though i used the the last extra half kilo of sugar as a cap to avoid something like this i'm not sure if it's supposed to be like this currently i do not have imo or or medicine to make this since i'm a beginner so spring it's only about to start i've attached some photos to see what's happening i remove most of the white stuff from the heads and, um, and remaining submerged with a metal
27:40 mesh and a washed rock. Any advice on what I should do? Okay. So you guys can see these photos here. Um, and it looks like, yeah, he pressed it down. Um, and what you're seeing growing there, is totally fine. It happens on a lot of my batches, really. It's nothing to worry about. I don't know exactly what microbe it is. And I should go up to my fish amino acids, my can of fuels and do maybe a reaction video with it because, um, my, um, yeah, my,
28:29 my fish aminos look different. Each, each, each batch has its own difference to it. And so, um, so looking through them, showing you guys what's different and what you're seeing there is, is totally fine. So don't worry about that, George. That's just how, um, just, it'll continue to ferment and then eventually you can pour out the liquid um and the the fish does get moldy sometimes but that's that's okay um and and i um so and and then just to answer um i do do's uh question um i after my solutions are done after they're super saturated i typically
29:15 storm with a breathable or excuse me not a breathable a airtight cloth on top or an airtight cloth an airtight lid not a cloth excuse me that's real confusing it's airtight because otherwise they will evaporate okay so sorry you got to speak clearly if you want to get ideas across okay so number two here okay you guys ready for a second question george's second question i have pastures to recover as well as my friends will sow wheat peas and possibly cannabis about 10 hectares 24 acres dang i plan to um plan to try out also the jam disgustingly cheap microbes
30:05 since it is super low cost to try out how would you recommend rejuvenate pastures and plowed field using korean natural farming oh man this is a long question for a pasture i have distributed almost decomposed manure okay this is important since my neighbor is a conventional farmer with about 600 hectares 1500 acres of land when i asked him he have heard of the microbial solutions compost teas as fertilizers he didn't know about this but he would be interested to see if it works so i have a good reasons for success in these tryouts okay wow that's all that's a long
30:50 question, but it's more than one question in there. But the general idea is trying out these disgustingly cheap microbes and how would I recommend to rejuvenate pastures and plowed fields? Well, that's kind of what I've been doing. So the area I've been working here is old sugarcane land. and what I've been doing is drilling in fish. You know what? Let me, if anyone, the whole reason I did it on stream, okay, yeah, so let me finish up answering George's questions
31:36 and then if anyone wants to join into the chat here or if you want to join in, I'm going to put this link here and if you click on that then I'll be able to add you in here in a minute after I finish answering these questions so we still got a half hour and if anyone wants to join together and um jump in there click that link and then I'll see you pop up here and then can add you in okay so um so anyway back back to this question recovering these old pieces of land uh seawater is your friend diluted seawater it remineralizes your land um putting these these
32:20 um these cheap microbes disgustingly cheap microbes it costs next to nothing as long as you can get some sort of system to drench them out there and get them going um you should be you should be in good shape you know it's like um yeah the jadam solutions and And since your friend is going to, you know, has 1500 hectares, or I think that's what you, was it? No, 1500 acres, 600 hectares, which you want to, you know, just take a small area, a small, you know, like one acre area and just soak that area with microbes and put it on, you know, some sort of boom sprayer.
33:08 if he has that type of acreage, he probably has that type of equipment, maybe in just do a small area, soak it down with those microbes, you'll see a difference, you know, in what do I recommend, you know, on that type of scale is teas, make these liquid microbes, be able to put them out there and, you know, get some sort of equipment that as your plants go through the life cycle, you're able to get these, the maintenance solution out to them, which is food, medicine, cleanser, um, structure and getting those out to them all the time. You know, that's, that's what,
33:46 um, that's what you want to be doing. Um, oh, you know what? That's what I was thinking. Boom there. Now it fits. Yeah. That's what I was. I forgot that I had to make it two thirds. to fit everything, the golden ratio. George is into that. He had a golden ratio of farms and two thirds and all this. So let's see here. Now I can read it right here and I don't have to like lean down and try to read this thing at the same time. So I got a separate screen up here. Yeah, so don't try to go fully in there, just do it as is.
34:32 Okay, and then I got one more question and then, yeah. We'll put George in here. George is waiting. That's cool. Let's see here. Okay, so since I'm exploring ways to support the soil food web, is it safe to assume that Korean natural farming and Jadam are compatible regarding application of microbes? For example, Jadam Microbe Solution feeds in anaerobic microbes in deeper level of soil. okay by drenching deep it gets the microbes way deep down yeah that's the whole idea of the jadam microbe solution and kna serves aerobic yes it grows from the top down um
35:14 for tops would an alternative for small farmers like me to start out you know it's it the more microbes you put out there the better um you put the dust on top feed that soak the microbes in the more you do the better so looks like you're on the right track here yeah so you guys talking about your faa there and all that yeah it really um pushing it down keeping it down it comes out pretty good okay so let's see here i'm gonna go back to this screen How's it, George?
36:15 Oh, hey. Hey. Yeah, welcome, man. Thanks. So that was cool to see all of your posts and to see what you're doing and to see that you've been tuning in here and taking this knowledge and bringing it there. Yeah, it's really cool. It's really interesting. Yeah, I found it somewhere and it stuck in my mind and I had to return to it. And then, yeah, like two months ago, I started looking really into it and watching all the videos as I can and starting making stuff. so it's pretty cool and interesting makes sense how it works but yeah practice i need practice
37:02 it's still like five degrees outside in celsius yeah the the freezing weather and then understanding like you know if this is kind of your first season getting into it to understand the timing of when making what solution at what time makes sense yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah um i want to make i found this uh imo bath that sounded really cool i want to make that since the imos will be important to collect and propagate uh that's one of the things i'm looking forward to and uh yeah as i saw i was making more garden beds
37:47 with like really thick layer of goat manure that i have quite a lot since you have like a hundred goats so i'm trying to smother out all the weeds that are really nasty to deal with i had experience last year that i started like small small scale to see how the nodig system works and now I'm trying to increase the amount of garden beds and and starting looking into it how to grow stuff since I'm more IT IT field came from and uh yeah that's that's funny because I'm I'm also um you know IT like computer science and then
38:36 sitting there and understanding like once I understood where the food came from I thought to myself, man, I can't just rely on other people to grow this food. I have to be part of the solution. And then when I understood the system of KNF, it meshed so well with systematic understanding I have from the other realm that it just makes so much sense to me. Yeah, it does. It's very interesting. and it's you have a very good explanations as well how it all fits together so it's quite easy to soak up this knowledge it's yeah and what was the most important was that that spoke to me
39:22 why this system works is that I can I can collect microbes in my area and get the kind of food specifically for that plant that I want to grow. And that was like, yes, I need both of those things. That was something I was looking forward to finding out how to do it. Yeah, and that's the nutrient density cycle. Once you get that going and you give the exact nutrients that exact plant wants, then it starts to become even more healthy for you and and all that. So, and I really liked your approach of building up instead of going and digging down into that soil.
40:07 So where did you learn that and where did you get inspired to do like the digging upward? That was more Charles Dowding. He's referred as like a godfather of no-dig approach and he has like 40 years experience making no-dig gardens. he has a really good youtube channel as well going on and anyone that's looking into that i'm saying i'm learning from him it's like he he explains it well it's really nice and yeah that's it's just following the the way how nature builds up the soil so you just have to copy that and multiply. Do you have access to working with the farmer who has the goats?
41:00 That's my parents. I'm basically returned back to farm where I grew up with my parents and I have to manage this land as I see it because I'm the only one I guess I'm capable of taking up this this challenge and give parents a safe and peaceful mind going into retirement there's like 25 hectares around the house and 15 more behind the forest nearby so it's quite a lot of land so garden is like very small piece of it I still have to like manage the pastures for the goats so that keeps going on and my focus is mainly making the garden that's what I want to
41:45 do but i have to manage everything else as well and starting taking like this year i have to like really get into it and take care of things well well that to me sounds like a great opportunity to also like start to introduce knf into those uh your your operation you already have going as well um and so um if you're if you're able to when you do make imo and you make imo three or four where where either you've propagated them out or you've activated them with your soil either either one of those if you're able to put that into your animal food then your goats as they
42:28 poop out those little pellets they will be little inoculated balls with the microbes and your and your goats will start to become your your pelletized microbe factory yeah that's that's pretty interesting yeah it also stuck in my mind when you said it it's like that that is possible otherwise that's super interesting that that is possible to do it uh now i'm testing out the lab i'm not sure uh it's if it's if it helps or not but i have like boxes like four boxes and the first one and the last one i'm spraying the lab like once a week or
43:07 something like that and when i'm going to take take it out uh to compost it and we'll see if there's any difference if there's smell difference or anything like that but i'm already thinking okay next next winter i'm gonna collect up the also the biochar and when i'm feeding the goats and and taking care i can spray lab and add a biochar in it so i don't have to like mix it later on and i'll have probably imos as well so i can make a deep beddings so that would be pretty interesting to do yeah yeah no it's it's really like once you get the the system going knf is like korean
43:51 natural farming is all about like integrated animal farming so the more you can get the the microbes in there and then your goats become healthier, which then are, you know, putting microbes out, which then makes your soil healthier, which then makes, you know, this whole, this whole system work, work really well. Because when I, when I think about it, you know, and you say that you haven't made the, the IMOs yet, if, if you were able to make like simple microbes and put it into your goat's feed, because when you're building your soil bed, you're incorporating
44:25 your goats manure and and as as somebody who has access to livestock you have such a level up because the manure that the goats are going to produce with those microbes are going to be even better so so in my case i'm doing it here with with pigs so so when i have the pigs like instead of trying to go and put out like imos that i've made i i take the pig bedding that they've they've composted and they've made this rich stuff and that has so much more microbial richness than trying to make like an IMO4 pile myself because the animals are making this this secondary process
45:07 of like you know it has it has urine and manure and everything just in the in the microbe richness of it so taking what I do with a lot of my IMO4 that I make here on this farm is majority of it actually goes into my animal's food. So instead of taking IMO4 and putting a whole bunch on the land, which I do, but there's already a lot of microbes out there, is that I'm actually putting the IMO4 into their feed. Yeah, that's also interesting. I'm not sure how to incorporate these feeds much. we are feeding wheat
45:53 and stuff like that like grains we are giving as a feed and then we are adding like micro elements to it that those are store bought at the moment so we'll see when I collect the IMOs more then I'll see how I can incorporate that into feed yeah well even you know each day that I make the chicken feed actually well, Sue's makes it a lot, is that we take like the plant juice, the food, and mix that in. So, you know, where you're saying you're mixing in StarBot micro elements, it may be possible to figure it out that, you know, you may have the plants you need already to find the same
46:39 supplements that you're feeding. And it all, you know, it all depends on, you know, cost and benefit and how much you're making and but you may be able to customize your own and um yeah i'm thinking uh from the garden if it goes really well then then garden should be big enough to so i can make feeds also for for goats that's so they get some vitamins going on and stuff like that because goats like to nibble on things and i don't know if he can soup i haven't really thought how i could supply them with some shrubs and stuff like that because they like the nibble on those a lot.
47:19 So yeah, some from garden waste could go there as well for them to eat and that could be mixed in. Can I ask you about the goat cheese and are you using goat milk to make lactobacillus, the protectors and I yeah I did but the season ended so I switched on to neighbor's cow milk but yeah I did that and it was kind of weird a little bit because it gets like it was what the end of the season it was for some reason like like thick milk and I wasn't sure if I'm making it right so yeah oh for
48:08 goat cheese um we are using vinegar to quicken the process but until now we use like concentrated vinegars so i'm looking into have to get some like like naturally made ones maybe the taste will be a lot different i i wonder i wonder if the you know the way that's produced via the vinegar because there is a way that comes off right yeah yeah it's much much quicker with the vinegar huh i wonder i wonder if um if that is as agriculturally beneficial i have no experience with the with the vinegar produced cheese it's like uh yeah i'm also like confused because
48:54 the way is like looks the same smells the same but the process is like a lot faster like in minutes you put it in you mix it and then you can like almost immediately you can see minute two and it's already into you can get off the the curd wow wow yeah yeah i just i wonder what um what properties the whey has if it you know like what microbes are in there if it probably still needs to ferment or yeah that's that's that's an interesting idea so what are you um what are you making next for natural farming um i'll be making lab again because
49:46 I'm invited next to weekend to show people some stuff from what I'm doing so the the bones and the calcium from eggshells and the lab those three I'll be preparing for the next weekend yeah the fish amino acids notice that's one that you saw that's going on I'm waiting for it what else yeah I'm collecting yeah I got the sugar like 50 kgs I got cinnamons but those are not organic they're kind of cheap I'm just wondering if the quality of those could affect the quality
50:32 of the end products and yeah I got some gun cow seeds but I don't know if they will grow and then i have to source other other ingredients i need to get but i put the ginger on the shelf and it starts to come up slowly so i'm hoping that they can grow that at least garlics for sure i can get garlics yeah yeah yeah so so collecting collecting the supplies to to get those the herbal nutrients together mm-hmm yep regarding the neighbor I asked if he knew anything about composting and said he didn't but he has like a lot of land and he's doing conventional his son is trying to do
51:17 biological way certified with cows but I'm not sure how well he's doing he's trying to manage his cow manure with some wood chips and then mixing it where they live and stuff like that so it's that the micro world could could change a little bit how they do stuff probably i'm not sure how much they know but they have a lot of land that they're using conventionally so if he's interested to what he's doing there and then i have to make make a success uh rejuvenating my my uh pastures uh then then he would be like okay because uh because of the
51:56 things in europe that's going on the front it's been uh yeah the prices of the fuel going up really fast and uh there's a question about the the fertilizer makers that they can't get the supplies so so this is the this is like like we we should investigate like really fast this one because then we can say, hey, we have the solution. Don't worry about it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, that's kind of scary that it even comes to that. But it really is for the world to make this transition to understand that the same fertility can come from microorganisms
52:41 and fermentation and grow our own fertilizer. uh you know i mean yeah the the the chemical fertilizer process is so energy intensive to make and i mean the part the part that's nice about the whole industry is is to have the mechanization it's so it's it's nice to be able to go out to land and be able to still um spray you know or or to to nurture the land um not that you have to go out and till it or or anything but with you know yeah i that's so what did what did you think about you know treating treating just a
53:19 small area to to see i mean yeah yeah i have like three hectares that i i sprayed the goat manure on and i want to more soak in some microbes so the food is there the compost i want like microbes going on it's like three hectares it was really poor soil there's no hay to collect basically and yeah I'm thinking to make a JMS because it's cheap and sprayed on there and see what happens I tried to make it but the cube was the one cubic meter of the container I accidentally poked it some time ago I made that solution there
54:03 and it poured out for everything out through that hole I hope it will hold but it didn't but it's fine at least we went that went out there I found the first time the word with the leaf mold however I could and yeah at least we made see the whole the process with squishing out the potato through the bag how thick the bag should be so it's easier to get it through yeah at least I went into the process the first steps is fine these mistakes always happen well and and for you for you right now at your temperature I don't know if you could put like a
54:44 like they have bucket heaters to like warm the temperature up of the water like while you're making the the microbe solution yeah I had like this like a wire that heats itself up like 17 watts per meter and that's that we use for uh keeping the pipes warm so they don't freeze so we can pour the water for the loads and i use that like like eight meters so that i put it in but since the water poured out i couldn't test if it that can keep 18 degrees yeah yeah yeah but i I think that's necessary. So yeah, next time, I mean, when it works.
55:30 Yeah, that's good, man. Well, it seems like you're on a good path to be able to do this and teach and share. I mean, right now, with everything going, having this knowledge, um you know like getting it to people because it's it it is it is something that could you know save lives i mean essentially you know yeah it was like i was looking around like we're like everyone's like the local market it's like it was two days a week and when i when they're it's so boring there nobody goes there it always starts so early like six seven in the morning and by 10 it's over.
56:15 People are not interested in waking up that early to go to the market to get some local veggies. It's crazy. And then locally producing food is basically not happening in my area. It's like, what's happening? We can't. If the Russians come, they close the shops, and by third day, we are giving up, because we don't have a proper, our own source of food. So my idea was to just, okay, we have some space. Let's open up like a shop that can be 24-7 open and we put local produce there. So it's like simple. It's why I have to complicate
56:59 it with papers and stuff. Well, yeah. Can you talk a little bit about the community that you're growing there yeah we're basically five friends that came together and uh we just did like that let's make an association like an official uh association that we call ss fikes which basically means in our local dialect it means be fresh become fresh and uh yeah and uh we're kind of trying to like see what what what is needed there what what needs to be done and uh we understood like okay the basics is okay can we make food because we are in farm and we can grow stuff
57:45 if you want to so we started with micro greens and stuff like that and uh then i i was like investigating more about how how stuff is grown and uh yeah i started making garden beds and another friend started going around selling our microgreens and then other other locals produce and yeah and now we are like things are moving forward the new space is opening up where you can process process food and store food there's some investments going on and yeah and I'm trying to what I learned here although I haven't really have a break practice to like I haven't really
58:35 done it on my my own crops yet but I'm learning the process and I'm like okay let's make community this needs to go out fast because you know soil is needs to be like taken care of and seems that people really don't know how to do it properly because there's I don't know misinformation or hard to find it's like Like, I don't know what's going on, but this needs to go out clearly to people. There's an easy way how to do it. It's really not that difficult. You have ingredients that you can make at home and do it for your own garden. It's really easy. It seems, at least, you have to try it out.
59:14 I need to try it out to be 100% sure how to do it. Then it's like, okay, it's open. Let's go. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I, you know, seeing is believing, knowing, you know, and scientifically proving all this stuff. But, but it's, it's, it's interesting because it's like invisible, right? You know, you're talking about your neighbor trying to do some wood chips with, with, you know, and, but, but knowing, just knowing, okay, I got wood chips. And then if I put some IMOs in there, it's going to like be a force multiplier.
59:45 Like, but it's, but it's this invisible thing where you just walk up with this dust and you seem like some crazy person like oh i mean you know but but so i i want to i want to just uh share share this like little brief bit of like you know how how to how to see a miracle of imo and like how to how to demonstrate this to someone who may not be a believer of like knowing these things work and it's just magic dust um so yeah uh two days ago we got um 35 um two 35 gallon buckets of fish fish waste and here in hawaii i i left it out
1:00:27 overnight um with with a lid on because what i'm trying to do is i'm trying to get soldier flies to come and land and i'm trying to get maggots to grow because then i want to feed those maggots to my chickens and to my pigs and what um so one barrel i put in i after i put the fish i i put imo4 and i took maybe i would say um like two coffee cups worth of the of the imos and i put it on that one barrel the other barrel right next to it i didn't do anything i opened it the next next day, the one that I put nothing on, you could smell from like a mile away. It was so potent.
1:01:11 Like when that, that rotten fish hits your nose, it's so potent that it blew, blew me away. And you could open the one right next door to it. That was same, same thing with the IMOs and no smell. And I had, I had a tour of people here coming, coming to visit the farm and two, I think three or four girls took their head and put their head into the bucket of fish with the IMOs in there and just took a deep smell and they're like yeah it's it's not bad and the the barrel next to it was swarming with maggots just gross as heck and and you if you got anywhere near that you would
1:01:49 just you would you would vomit you know and so so just that that that juxtaposition when when you can take something i mean the reason i'm the reason i'm telling you this is like it's it's this dramatic like it to convince someone like oh it's just it's just dust well then just take any dirt and sprinkle it on one like maybe take three buckets one you know three buckets of fish put one with nothing one with dirt one with your microbes and then come back the day later and have the you know put your head in there and smell and in that magic like it's there's no smell like it's
1:02:22 it's tolerable you can actually the microbes are doing things and so their their invisible power everything that's that's hidden there it's like it's so hard to um like convince someone until you have that like that example in front of you until you like witnessed it almost in a certain sense yeah that's what i want to try out on my garden to show people that i'm trying to make these really nice gardens with the wood chip pass and standardized beds and nice wages growing so that's name so the shop will be right next to it and yeah this
1:03:01 is where I'm applying and sharing the knowledge I even want to sign I don't know where I got this idea but I want to sign next to the garden that beyond this you should take off shoes when you go into the food garden because it will be IMOs everywhere. Yeah. Yeah. You'll leave cleaner than you arrived, which is kind of funny. Yeah. Yeah. And folks in the chat are talking about manure and stuff and fresh. I just, I always recommend you take manure and mix it with IMOs. Always. Like, don't brew fresh manure or anything. Always compost it, ferment it first.
1:03:46 always put microbes with it like i'm talking about this gross fish where you can put your head in there same thing you could take a thing of poop put the microbes in there and after a day or so it'd be safe to to like you know put your head near it and it's not going to smell so it's always it's all about the microbes you don't want the reason poop is dangerous is because it's it can have more pathogens in there you know and the pathogens are what's stinky so if ever in your operation you smell something stinky put imos you don't have imos get the protectors and just
1:04:21 sprinkle those guys spray them in there clean it up because you don't want to you don't want to be spreading you know toxins around i have this um one solution that i made with this with bones or with and one of them i can show you the example of it maybe we can take a look at it yeah yeah sure yeah so yeah yeah you guys if if um if next week someone wants to be on join in ask questions get verification let me know i'll put the chat next time for you guys yeah happy to spread this around the world join together share with each other i mean look at
1:05:07 this like through the internet as through this portal someone else has created these solutions and now we've made the world a better place so that's what i'm trying to do with all of you thanks for being here and seeing this happen you know look at this this is it's almost a small miracle someone across the world has started to so yeah do this this is a this is a calcium and the one is like getting milky this one can you take it pull it a little bit further yeah this one is really happy and it has something on top of it i'm not sure why it's doing that
1:05:48 okay okay so so that one um you you need to skim it better and and so is that is that the one from the video that i watched um or because you had you had a video and that i that i had earlier that you sent me but so so one one one my my suspicion it why why why your reproduction is getting is it is that the reproduction it is yeah uh i don't uh with uh with eggshells i don't remember yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah no no no so so my my suspicion is that is that when you were cooking it you didn't get all the membrane out oh okay and so and so there is still some membrane so
1:06:36 that batch there may not last as long with its shelf life it still probably has calcium it's still probably good but it may not last as long in storage because there's still some organic matter And when I see that stuff growing on the top, the surface, I know that there's like some funky organic matter in there. So skim that off. And then when you go to pour it off next time, pour it through like a T-shirt, like a real fine sieve to try to get any solid particulate. Yeah, this is also quite like murky, milky. It's because there was still some membrane in the thing.
1:07:16 so there's organic matter starting biology starting to grow and like live eating eating the things so it may you use that use that batch within the next month because it probably won't last longer than a month because it's still still organic matter in there nothing's growing right now so i don't know where to put it maybe on the garden just like that it's a really good um so diluted you know diluted one to a thousand and mixing with seawater diluted one to 30 it's a great soil decompactor. Oh, okay. So the calcium itself is good for the soil. Okay. Yeah. It's needed.
1:07:55 It's needed for the soil organisms. The one that I make that you saw in the video is this one. It's from 10 to 10 years of March. So it's like more than two weeks to take it off, but I don't think it can go bad if it's it looks it looks ready i mean the the way the way to test would be to take one little fresh eggshell and drop it in and if it doesn't bubble it should be ready but that looks that looks ready to me i would pour it through a t-shirt and yeah it also has a little bit uh milky top so i'll try to cook more the the membranes off oh this one has strands in the
1:08:38 yeah it just when you're when you're making it that way like if if um it just will have a shorter shelf life um so so just be aware you know but it's it's it's probably still put yeah it's super cheap to make so i can refresh every time cool cool yeah awesome yeah well thanks thanks oh yeah Thanks, Jennifer. Super chat there. That's good. Awesome. Thanks for supporting. Cool. Well, thanks, George, man. I've had a good time talking with you. Is there anything else you want to share? Not for now. Maybe next time I'll prepare some questions when I got more time to look into it.
1:09:25 Yeah. Thanks. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. It's very valuable. Cool. Well, yeah, thanks for joining in across the world. Lakes tenders each other. So, yeah, cool. Well, I'll drop you out of this, and then I'm going to finish up the stream. And then, yeah, thank you. So, aloha. Thanks. Aloha. Cool. So, yeah, thanks. Thanks, everybody, for joining in. Thanks, George, for doing that. And, you know, if you guys want to tune in, sponsored by Pure KNF Foundation, thank you. And we'll be doing office hours next week, 9 a.m. Hawaiian time.
1:10:12 And if you want to email me a question, it's drake, D-R-A-K-E, at pureknf.org. That's P-U-R-E-K-N-F.org. And, yeah, thanks for tuning in. Thanks for joining in. Like, subscribe, all those things if you want to. I don't know. It helps algorithms and things. And thanks for donations. Thanks for keeping it real. And go out and revive the earth and starts with the soil, the microbes, you, us together. And as always, you know, long live the natural farmer. And yeah, aloha.
