IMO3 Temperature Fixes, Pile Size, and FPJ for Bees
Most of the hour goes to IMO troubleshooting. One farmer's IMO3 finished in four days instead of seven — probably not enough water. Another hit 120°F on day two, then cooled by day four; Drake asks about turning the pile and hitting 65% moisture. Chris in Greece had both an IMO3 and an IMO5 stall at 65°F, so Drake runs the full checklist: seed IMO source, the one-week sugar ferment, and the mix ratio of 50 lbs mill run, 5 gallons water, 1 cup seed IMO, 20ml LAB, 125ml maintenance solution, and 20g sea salt. His fix in most cases: a bigger pile, 50 lbs minimum, and more moisture.
For foundation IMO (IMO4), Drake recommends three kinds of soil plus biochar and wood chips for carbon, and getting moisture to 60-65% before adding more. Quick answers: homemade grape vinegar beats store-bought BRV, flip the pile only after it passes 110°F, unripe apple fermented fruit juice works fine on lawns, and Master Cho's potting mix runs about 10% IMO. On compost at scale, Drake prefers smaller piles over one giant windrow because they're easier to flip if something goes wrong.
The second half is video from a past Korea trip. At a beehive, Master Cho's trick was spraying fermented plant juice 20 feet from the hive so bees fly out, get exercise, and feed on it, with LAB left in troughs at the base — no sugar water needed. Then a tabletop Korean barbecue, cooked right at the table with garlic, peppers, and kimchi, and a quiet moment remembering Master Cho and old friends from those early trips.
Housekeeping: KNF Support is back online after a database repair, Drake built a new IMO box and is planning an IMO bath next, he's still building a Master Cho chatbot using retrieval-augmented generation, and he's weighing a one or two week course in Hawaii this January.
Questions answered
- 9:57 Is the RAG chatbot for Master Cho's teachings still in progress? — Yes — built on N8N, a Qdrant database, and Whisper transcripts of every podcast, but not fully working yet.
- 25:28 Is it okay that my IMO3 finished in only 4 days? — Probably didn't add enough water — the process should take about 7 days.
- 26:09 My IMO3 hit 120°F on day 2 but cooled by day 4 — why? — Check that you're turning the pile and hitting 65% moisture; cold weather and small piles stall it too.
- 28:27 Why did my IMO3 and IMO5 both stay cold at 65°F? — Ratio: 50 lbs mill run, 5 gal water, 1 cup seed IMO, 20ml LAB, 125ml maintenance solution, 20g sea salt; also checked seed IMO source and one-week ferment.
- 30:40 What's the minimum pile size for IMO? — At least 50 pounds — smaller piles struggle to hit critical temperature.
- 31:14 My IMO pile is only 10 kilos — is that too small? — Yes, double it to 20-25 kilos so it can heat up properly.
- 32:37 Should foundation IMO (IMO4) use three different kinds of soil? — Yes, and add biochar and wood chips too for carbon.
- 36:46 My IMO4 has dry clay clumps and cools within a day — what's wrong? — Get moisture up to 60-65% — that's the crucial first step.
- 40:16 Can I use homemade grape vinegar instead of store-bought BRV, and when do I flip the pile? — Yes, homemade grape vinegar beats store-bought BRV; let the pile pass 110°F before the first flip.
- 40:59 Is unripe apple fermented fruit juice good for lawns? — Yes — any fermented fruit juice works, though comfrey is Drake's top pick.
- 41:43 Anyone doing hot compost at scale with a tractor and big windrows? — Drake prefers smaller piles since they're easier to flip and manage if one goes wrong.
- 43:06 What's Master Cho's ratio for potting mix? — From memory, around 10% IMO.
- 46:03 How do you feed bees without giving them sugar water? — Spray fermented plant juice about 20 feet from the hive so bees fly out, exercise, and feed on it, and put LAB in troughs at the hive base.

1:00 Welcome to the Korean Natural Farming Podcast featuring the works of Master Cho brought to you by the Pierre Kena Foundation. All of you wonderful people that are members and help contribute and super chat and bring all goodness around and showing up you yourself. Thanks for being here. We got an hour to talk about anything Korean natural farming related or not. Um, and, um, yeah. So if you know any questions you got, drop them in the chat. Also, you can join pureknf.org and jump in the members chat over there, which is awesome
1:46 and it's cool and it's great. And, um, yeah, that should be fun. So, uh, good. We got some good people in the house already. Thanks. Thanks for being here. And, uh, let's start off with a little bit of higher wisdom before we jump into the whole deal of what makes life great. So today is a duration and it says, remain steady and allow the world to shape itself. Receiving this hexagram is an encouragement to endure, to move ahead by abiding in what is true and correct. It is not a time to let the ego swell with success nor despair at misfortunes.
2:39 It is simply a time to hold to the path of essential truth. It is likely a change has occurred or is about to. It is your responsibility to hold your course. And go on without regarding this change. Constancy and correct thought and action is the order of the day. Rather than letting your head be turned, simply hold steady on your spiritual path while the world around you, or while the world reforms around you.
3:27 Do not indulge in judgment, impatience, or ambitious thinking now. By concerning yourself only with what is essential, true, and good. Only with what is in front of you and your correct relationship to it. You meet with good fortune now. So yeah, definitely. Definitely. Duration. Sometimes, you know, wanting to rush into things, wanting to do things, wanting to make change, see things happening, be like, oh, get FOMO.
4:15 F-A-F-O, FOMO. So, you know, all those things. Just trying to, trying to be, just be. Duration. Durate it. So thanks for being here for the duration, for this, you know, sometimes I'm like, I'm so boring. I do the same thing all the time. I don't know what the difference between boring and consistency are. Anybody know? Um, not sure. Um, I guess maybe I'm very consistent. Maybe I'm not boring. I don't know. Sometimes, I guess, you know, exciting. People tune in. I love you guys. So thanks for being here. We got Tremblay Thomas in the house. What's up, bro? Florida.
5:01 Stonemason. Howdy, brother. Oh, man. It's nice to see you. And Cheryl. What's up? Aloha from Idaho. Cool. Cool. Rainbow Possum Farm. Yeah, Washington. Christoph coming in from Belgium. Oh, my gosh. It's a worldwide community. George. What's up? My Latvian friend. Oh, my gosh. George. Good to see you, brother. And spend quite some time. I'm glad you're checking in. Good things happening, man. Lots of good stuff. So, in terms of good stuff happening, duration, doing things, doing the same things all the time. For some reason, KNF support was down. It had a database connection error. I don't know.
5:47 I reset the database. I think there was an emoji. I had to go into MySQL and type a query that went through and repaired the database. But there's plenty of... But it's back up now. And then I upgraded to the newest WordPress and all of a sudden it worked again. I was like... It was giving me redirect errors with my cookies and stuff. And I was like, huh. So... But anyway, it looks like there's a lot of questions that need to be answered. So, if anybody knows how to answer a question about salt marshes, about Colorado beetle,
6:22 about bug repellent, about storing IMO3 material, feel free to jump in. KNF support. Be part of the community that answers questions. And eco-friendly fertilizer. Lots of people got questions. I probably got some answers. I might kick down here. In fact, I think I probably will. I probably will. Especially the storing IMO3 material. Which, by the way, that's what I've been working on this past week. Boring is so lonely. No one would be here. Yeah, I guess I'm not boring. I'm just consistent. Where's the line between boring and consistency? I don't know. So, anyway.
7:10 So, speaking of... What you call... I got a new phone, by the way. I succumbed to the new whatever and did the thing. It was orange. I couldn't turn it down. I was like, it's my color, finally. I was... You know, and then the thing is, I bought a new phone. And I'm like, man, my Galaxy Note 9 that I have still is pretty good. But I tell you what, the camera on this thing? Unreal. It was... Is it worth it? I don't know. I spent way... You know, but I also wanted to, like, have that dopamine hit of, like, getting something new. And being like, yes. But really, it wasn't really worth it.
7:47 I'm like, I don't know if this is any better than my old phone. It was working okay. And plus, I like the stylus on the Note 9. Anyway, no stylus here. But it does have a better camera. And I have been inspired to make a few more videos. So, let me just pull up this real quick here. So, I've been cutting it. And I will cut it. But let's see if I can full screen this like that. So, I built an IMO box. Um, yeah. It'll just play. So, you can see that. So, speaking of storage for stuff, I built an IMO box. It took me... Took me, what? A couple days? Took me two days to do it. Because I just...
8:30 You know, here's the legs. So, I built this IMO box. There you can see it in its full glory. Why did I build this? Because I already have one. But why did I build another one? Look at those legs. I mean, look at that craftsmanship. Oh my gosh. It, it... Um, you know, it took me... It took me a lot longer to build it. Because I was filming it while I was building it. If you want to make something take three times as long, film it while you build it. Um, but I made it so that, um, I can build an IMO bath. And I also bought four bags of do more senior horse feed.
9:10 And I am going to inoculate those with IMOs. I was going to do it the other day. But then I thought today I might go to the other side of the island. Hang out with my friend at his beach house. But I don't know if I'm going to go. Because I was going to go last night. And then be there all today. And then, like, do this office hour from there. From the beach, man. Um, but... I don't know if I'm going to make it. Because I drive over... It's two hours over there. Or am I going to hang out at the beach, get sunburned, drive two hours back? I don't know. Um, maybe. Maybe.
9:42 I was going to spend the night. That would have been more fun. Hang out. Cook some pork. Hulu. All the food that I have. I have so many eggs now. It's unreal. So many eggs. I have huge problems now that I have too much food. I could probably... I could sell it. But selling it... By the time I drive there to sell it, it's like I actually lost money. It's like farming, you can't... Anyway. Anyway. Duration. Just keep steady on the things. Um. I could give it away to people. But then if I give food to people, will they appreciate it? I mean, maybe friends. But, like...
10:18 It's going to create more people that think food is free and undervalue it and not grow it themselves. Right? I don't know. I don't know. Um. Have I considered making an AI chatbot using retrieval augmented generation based on a database of information you have available? Yes, George. Yes. I tried to work on a RAG augmentation. I follow, um... Menden. Menden. I don't know. Some guy that talks about it. I have an N8N system hooked up. I have a quadrant database that I'm running. And I took all the podcasts and chose stuff. And I ran it through WhisperCPP.
11:04 And I made a whole transcript of everything. Um. And I wanted to have it so you could ask it anything. And it would just pull relevant video clips by stitching together some FFmpeg and, like, in real time build you a video clip. Um. And I have played around with that. I haven't fully got it to work yet. And it's just, like, one of those projects of, like, it's fun. But then it's also frustrating. And I'm, like... Urgh. Trying to make it work. But how cool would that be to have a chatbot? And I have, you know, um... O-Lama running on this system with, um... You know, whatever model.
11:42 I have a few models running. And it's a 32 gigabyte Mac Studio. So it's fairly capable to run decent models to, like, understand and do RAG systems. And how cool would it be to, like, have the spirit of Master Cho where you could just, like, go in there. And I was going to integrate it into the, um... Into the Fire... Ah, man. So many names of stuff. And I'm, like, my brain... Um. But our chat that I put up for the group. So if you go to chat.pureknf... Ah, not chat GPT. Come on. Chat.pureknf.org. If you go over here to the chat... Chat.pureknf.org. Um. You can get here.
12:27 And if you are a member... Then, um... Signing in with WordPress down here. Or if you're already a member. It should just work through. Um. It should pull up my credentials here. Go to that one. Go to that one. And if everything works right. Never demonstrate anything. But if everything... Oh, that worked. Okay. So now I'm into the membership. And then I think if I go here and I say sign in with WordPress. It should ask me for this consent. To share my email across the thing. And I go like this. Oh, it's rocket chat. So I was going to integrate the spirit of Master Cho into this.
13:01 So that you could make a channel here. That would be just like Master Cho. And it would pull up these videos. And use that remote augmented generation. And pull those databases in. But man, if you want to kick down and help out with that. And work on that kind of stuff. Man, I'd be open to that. I, you know, um... Have all the transcripts and stuff. I mean, if I pull up the file system. It's like tons of transcripts. I've done most of the work for it. It's just like figuring that last bit out. So that you could actually chat with Master Cho. And get a video back of him doing it.
13:36 That would be cool. But like I said. Man, I've been in the middle. I've been making a video. So I am going to make a whole video based on the, um... You know, I built the box. And I'm going to do IMO bath and healing. And I really... Like I was saying last week. What am I doing with my life? Well, I spent a week, you know, in the middle of... I built a box. Next week is going to be inoculating the IMOs. And jumping in there. Maybe next week's office hour will be from the IMO box. I don't know. We'll see if I can get the internet over there. Um... So, um... Yeah. But, um...
14:14 Anyway, so I'm trying... You know, I'm trying to build more content. I also, this last week, um... Talked with Mike DuPont, legendary godfather of natural farming. And, um... He is wanting to do a meeting in Hilo. I don't know how many people in Hilo are interested. Seems like I've been pushing, like, you know, the communities worldwide. You know, I got folks in Idaho, Florida, Belgium, Latvia. You know, it's grown beyond just Hilo. But he's wanting to kind of return back to 2017. Which is cool. Uh, but a lot has changed. To quote my favorite podcast. Um... So, anyway.
15:00 Okay. Uh... Let's see here. Yeah. Cool. Cool. I'm glad Big Wes is having success with his flowers. Um... Thanks for keeping it YouTube-friendly. Um... Yeah, what is that guy? Austin Menden? What's his name? That guy, I don't know. He's super enthusiastic. Sometimes he talks way too long. And it's like the Archon OS or whatever he built. Anyway. Anyway, um... Trembling Tonnis got 28 hens now. 14 of them. Shouldn't start laying for a couple more months. Awesome, bro. I... I have so many eggs. I'm gonna throw a bunch of them in the incubator. Very gently. And, uh... Catch more chickens.
15:43 Cause I had a... I just... And chickens are the weirdest thing. I go in there yesterday. I'm like in the chicken pan. Helping them out. Feeding them. Doing all the stuff. And I open the hen box. And there's a dead hen in there. Like... What the hell, man? And like weird, uh... Bugs eating your head and shit. I'm like, what the hell? What? Emotional damage! And I'm like... Man, what the heck is going on? Dead... Dead hen in the hen box. I'm like... And she looked great. And she was like a... Um... The yellow one. What is that? Like... Orsterlop? No, no. What are those super friendly ones? Um...
16:21 The yellow nice friendly ones. I don't know. But she was dead as... She'd been dead for at least a while, man. She was stiff and rigor mortis had kicked in. Dead in there. And I was like... Man! So... Took her through in the pig pen, you know. The circle of life. Um... Buff Orpington. Yeah, Buff Orpington. One of the best, man. So... So I need to make more chickens because I have a new generation coming up. And then I have four new ones that are kind of like rogue. I think three of them are hens. One of them is probably a rooster. But they're rogue. They were born outside the chicken pen.
16:55 And because of the farm and its current state, I wasn't able to get them into the pen. And now they're outside. So they're forever going to be rogue right around my barn. Which I'm like... I'm not looking that forward to. Having chickens outside of your pen, they tear up everything. I'm trying to grow food around the pen to feed them. And they're like... This looks like a good thing to scratch up and destroy all the soil that you've made nice for me to grow my plants. Yeah, I think I'll destroy it. Ah. Get in the pen. Stay in the pen. Life will be better. Um. Ugh. Anyway.
17:30 They think they know what they're doing. It's like... Ugh. Chickens. Ugh. So anyway. I gotta hatch more though. Because then I can eat the bullets. And then... Have the hens. Say more eggs. Do I need more eggs? No. Do I want more eggs? I don't know. I just... I think... I think I'm addicted to farming. I... I think I'm addicted to farming. I... Master Cho. He came here. He's like... Do this. I'm like... I'm doing it. It's like... Can I stop? Can I... Could I... Could I... Could I ever live a life now where I don't have chickens? Like...
18:04 And eat just commercial shit eggs from the store that are just like... Or am I addicted to eating natural farming eggs? Can I ever go back? Could I just like... You know like... Like... And wipe my brain and be like... I love these eggs. These are delicious. Going back to like those store eggs that are just like... So nutritionally absent. And just like... Could I? Can I? I don't know. I think... I think I'm addicted. I think... I think there's like... And why do I want even more chickens? I don't know. I don't know. Like... I'm addicted to... Farming. Like I tried to get rid of my pigs. Right?
18:44 I tried. I was like... These things are killing me. Like in terms of... Man it's so much effort to keep pigs around. Right? And I'm like... I gotta get rid of pigs. I still have a pig. Four years later. I still have a pig. What the hell man? What the hell? Why? I... I... What am I doing? It's like... Get rid of your pigs. No. I can't. I can't. I just... I look at Gigi and I'm like... You're such a nice pig. I love you. It's like... Oh. Man. The integrated animal farming. It's like... No. Go back to a desert. I'm like... I can't do it. I can't do it. So... Yeah. Addicted to farming.
19:21 Speaking of other... Things going... Addicted to farming. Crazy people getting together. So we kind of had... My friend Kaika. Came over. Which if you don't know Kaika... She is amazing. She's... She is one of the reasons that we... Ended up bringing Gil Karangdang here... From the Philippines back in 2009. Was it... Was it... Yeah. It was November 2009. And... Then she actually... I think it was either her or Mary. I'm pretty sure it was Kaika though. It was either Kaika or Mary. Was the one that was like... Hey. We're going to meet every second Tuesday. And so she... Of the month.
20:02 So she was the catalyst behind the original natural farming meeting. And... We had a bunch of money left over from bringing Gil in. Because it was actually profitable. And we didn't take grants. And we just raised private money. And we brought them in. And we made money selling tickets. Like good little capitalist entrepreneurs. And we made money. And then we had all this surplus. And we're like... What are we going to do with the money? So we decided to have a meeting. And there was like $5,000 or something left over. And then Dr. Park and these Korean guys from California...
20:34 Ended up forming Cho Global USA. And then the money ended up getting lost. I think the Koreans in California stole it. Like a great Korean drama. And then we had no money. And then I just... And then Dr. Park was running the meeting. But every time he would tell the same story. And it's like... People were bored. And they were like... We've heard this story. And if you come to the same meeting... You take two hours out of your life every second Tuesday... To show up to a meeting. And someone tells the same story. You're just like... Ugh. And so I saw that. And I could read audiences.
21:09 And I could be like... Ah. These people want to hear something else. They want to progress. They want to learn. And so I started to run the meeting. And then for about eight years... I ran the meeting. And then... Crazy shit happened. And... People didn't understand how and why that thing worked. And... So it died. And they ran the thing into the complete ground. And now it's like... Should I bring it back to life? I don't know. I think I'm going to run one meeting at least. Because I like it. I like it. Meeting people... The thing about running the meetings... And the thing about this too...
21:44 Is like... Bruh. I've met such cool people from all over the world. And connecting people. And seeing this. I don't think there's any hope. To be honest. I think we're like... To save the world and whatever. I used to think that prior to 2020. I used to think... Oh there's a chance of hope. Like we can... We can actually save the world. I don't think that anymore. I really don't. I think we're... We're driving towards a wall. And we're accelerating faster. Instead of slowing down and being like... Maybe we shouldn't hit this wall. We're driving faster. We're going to burn all the energy for AI.
22:13 And... And the earth is getting desert... Desertified. And not enough people give a shit. But... But... I don't think I should let that stop me. Of running a meeting and connecting people. And benefiting myself. And to have good relationships. And doing what's right for me in my heart. Just because the whole world's going to implode and die. And... The earth... Earth will survive. And those of us that know how to cultivate and do natural farming. Especially Madag farming. And then Master Cho's farming. You'll survive. You'll be fine. I mean... Assuming... You know... Assuming a lot of stuff.
22:52 But is the world going to survive? Like... Are all those people living in Los Angeles going to survive? Like... I don't think so. It doesn't matter though. I mean... They're going to die anyway. Like... Everyone's going to die, right? At a certain point. But... The famine is here. If you don't know about the famine. It's here. Like... It is here. You talk to anybody that's farming. Like... The fact that there's food in the grocery store. Is like... I don't know how it happens. But the famine is here. And somehow it just magically appears. Like... It is here.
23:22 So if you're not growing your own food. I mean... Think of it. I was just talking about the eggs. Like... If you're eating the store eggs. There's no nutrition in those. You're basically... You know... Diabetes and famine. And like... Eating non-nutritious food and stuff. I mean... Like... The famine is here. It's here. Like... It's well underway. In hyperinflation. Global inflation. Global energy. I mean... It's here. If you don't know... I mean... That's why I do what I do. Teaching this. Building this community. Because I feel like there is hope. In you. In you. Right? In me.
23:54 There's hope in us. But is there hope for everybody? No. Like... So... I don't know. It's this weird conundrum that I'm in. Of like... Before 2020 I was like... Oh... Maybe there's hope. And then I saw what happened in 2020. And people injecting themselves with this untested thing. That like... I was like... Oh... And then they were telling me I had to wear a mask. I'm like... Uh... I'm... I'm... I know about biology, bro. Like... And I... And I... You know... I did get... I did... You know... I did get the... The COVID... I did get it for sure. I got a virus for sure.
24:30 And I got a kidney infection during that thing. But... Did I die? No. Was it communicable? And they... You know... I don't know. Maybe I could... I... IMO bath or something. Um... George is doing pasture birds? Yeah. Cool. I... I hope that works out. And... And... You know... If you go big enough... Go big enough... I had two legs for me. Um... You can probably do it. Um... Um... Um... Um... So we'll see. Anyway... I don't mean to be pessimistic. What I mean to say is... Should I start... Running a meeting in Hilo again? Um... I said yes. I said I'd do it. It's not that hard. Really.
25:13 I'd show up. Like... I have so many things to talk about. I mean... Even here. The office hour. Like... I love this. Like... I just feel like I could talk for hours. I mean... Not that I... I want to. I really want to get onto Master Cho's stuff. And doing those things. But... I just... Man... Doing natural farming... It just bubbles over. It's just like... There's so much goodness to share. So much goodness. Um... 120. Is it cool that the IMO 3 was made in 4? 4 days. Maybe. Um... You probably didn't add enough water to it. To be honest. It should probably take about 7 days. Water is life.
25:47 And you're not just trying to keep it low temperature. Or like less. You're trying to actually do a process. So... If you're running some sort of hack by adding not enough water or something. You're probably not getting the same biology. You could be. Um... And if you made IMO 4 FBJ from several... Two quick questions. My IMO 3 re-reached 120F on second day. But it cooled down on day 4. The temp didn't go higher than that. Um... I don't know. Is it really cold where you're at? I don't know what the outside temperature is. But... Turning the pile is very important.
26:23 Even if it's not going over 120. Um... And I don't know. Did you... Did you get it up to 65% moisture content? Um... And... I don't know. I don't know. Um... I'm not angry about the state of affairs. I'm actually... Acceptance is the key principle of the I Ching. And I try to go with acceptance. Stuff will just make like tears weep down the side of me as I accept things. I'm gonna have to get angry. Um... So I don't know on this IMO question here. What do you think, chat? What do you think? What do you think went up with, um... I don't know how you'd say that. What is that? Like...
27:08 Greek or something? Acrylic? I don't know. Zymnoptic? Hypnotic? Caliphate? I don't know what... I don't know what you're... Like... Sorry, I can't pronounce that. I don't even know how to read that properly. It's Greek. Oh, it's Greek. Cool. Hey, awesome. Um... Yeah. Well, Kalamata Olive to you, bro. Um... Um... Yeah, I don't know. Uh... Was cool at day four or two. So you're saying it's like room temperature again in four days? Sounds to me like you didn't add enough water to it. I don't know. I don't know. It's hard to debug stuff over the internet. Anyone else have an idea?
27:53 Uh... Nothing wrong. Having good food. Yes. Yeah, Stonemason. There's nothing wrong with having good food. Eating good. Keeping ourselves healthy. Um... Basic schooling on plant biology would do me good. All the technical parts of a plant. The other side of what I know. Yes. Ottawa to protest the truckers. Yeah, bro. Did you meet, um... Viva Frye? Or Autowalks? I like those guys. That broke the malaise of finesse. Or subjected to the color revolution. Media propaganda. And witnessing who didn't comply. Flash. Yeah. Chris is my name. Hey, Chris. All right. Chris. Chris from Greece. Or Greek.
28:35 Um... It was 65 degrees. Quite cold. Both in IMO 3 and 5. Huh. Did you... So... When you... Um... Let me switch over here to the book here. The book. The book. The book. Pull up the book. And let's just go here and ask a few simple questions here with this. So here... When you're making your IMO process here and you go... Let's see. The book. The book. The book. That one. So you've collected your seed IMO. Where'd you collect it? That's a good question. Where did you collect it from? Um... Did it look like this? Let me turn on my cursor here so you can see. Did it look like this? Or that?
29:17 Or did you get nice good collection? Where did you collect it from? Yeah. Viva moves fast. Yeah. Viva Frye. Um... Did you then store it with sugar for about a week to ferment it in a nice jar with one-third airspace? Did you go through the second seed IMO preservation step? Then when you mixed it, did you mix in this ratio here where it's about 50 pounds of mill run mixed with five gallons of water? And in that five gallons of water is one cup of your seed IMO, 20 milliliters of lactic acid bacteria, 125 milliliters of maintenance solution, and 20 grams of sea salt.
30:04 Did you add all of these nutrients to the water plus the seed IMO into the mill run? And this is like a thing. You could scale this up or down, right? You don't have to do exactly 50 pounds. And also, what was the size of your pile? How much weight were you doing? Okay. So five different places. Two of them were like this one. Yeah, seven days storage. Okay. No lab at the moment. That's okay. That's okay. The lab is like the protectors. They go in there and they just help to keep things from getting out of hand. They're like the bouncers. They're security guards at the party.
30:38 They keep things from getting out of hand. So if you don't have them, it's okay. Hopefully the people were peaceful and they didn't revolt. And if they had enough food, odds are, you know, the lab can also help from things overheating. But what size was the pile? Was it 50 pounds or greater? I don't recommend doing less than 50 pounds just for the various reason that sometimes it's hard to get it to get up to critical temperature. And in this one, it's showing like if you here on this graph, if you didn't turn it, it would go all the way up to like 160 and then come back down.
31:10 But if you do turn it, you kind of knock it down 120, 120, 120 down here. And then it starts to cool down at the day seven, day 10, depends on how moist you get it. But, um, and then what substrate did you use? So all those questions are very vital for kind of diagnosing this of why the temperature didn't kick up. 10 kilos, 10 kilos is about what, uh, 20 pounds. I would say double your volume at least try and get it up to 20, 20 kilos, 25 kilos. Small pile may cool down quicker. That's for sure. And then the problem, the problem is like, it's like a fire, right?
31:54 You need the fire to get big enough, the fire to get big enough to get enough heat in there to then have nice coals and embers. If you're just kind of burning twigs and you never get it to heat up, then you'll never get embers and it won't last very long. It's, and it's that fire, that initial fight. Like, so it's, it's, so it's a matter of having enough fuel to create the conditions for that. So I would, I would say go a little bit more material next time when you go to do it. A 50 pound pile is kind of like a minimum for me. You can do it smaller.
32:25 You can, you just don't get that critical reaction. And then I don't know how much the microbes have time to grow and breed with each other. Um, and three different kinds of soil. So when you're talking about this next process here, when you add in the 50 pounds of propagated microbes from the prior step, and then 25 pounds of soil and 25 pounds of soil from the field, you're saying use three different kinds of soil. That's good. Um, and I always recommend throwing in some biochar and wood chips into this as well to make sure you have enough carbon for the whole system to kick butt.
32:59 Um, yeah, so I, I would say, I would say the issue why, why it cooled down so quick was that, um, it just didn't, you know, more volume to have it so that they can interact and do things. I don't know. You know, I, I don't know. Ultimately you'd have to kind of try and see if the smaller piles work as well. But for some reason, I feel like you have to get it big enough to get a critical mass to go. And, um, yeah, that's my experience. Anyone else got other experience? Drop it in the chat there. I mean, there's some really good experienced folks here that have turned a whole bunch of piles.
33:40 So, um, wishing you the best. I think it's just scaling up a little bit to make, um, even if the, the, the whole, the whole point of even scaling up bigger is then you can create a sauna where you can get in it. Like, like, look at, look at this picture here of, um, Kyla and, um, you know, turning this IMO pile. Like when it's this big, you can actually like put your feet in here, put it over your body. This size pile, I think this is two bags of mill run. So I think it's about, what is that? Eight, 80 times. It's about a hundred, 140 pound pile right here.
34:19 Um, and that way you can get in this thing. And it's sweet. And that's, that's all I'm going to do this, this week. I'll probably, I'm going to do that. I'll probably make a video on it. Um, it'll be fun. At least that's what I'm going to tell myself. Um, yeah, I need it. I need to get in these things. I need to see if it actually works. Um, I got to test Mastercho's theories, bro. Is he just pulling my leg? Like, he's like, oh, get animals. It'll be easy. I'm like, yeah, yeah. Ten years later, I'm like, that guy tricking me. Anyway, it's not like, um, I'm not, I don't regret it.
34:57 I'm just, now I'm, now I'm addicted to farming, bro. Anyway, one hit. The first hit's free. The first pig's free. After that, then you're just like, you know, gotta get my pigs, man. Gotta get my pigs. Um, first pig's free. Yeah. Um, cool, cool, cool. A couple good conversations here. Um, yeah, I can't believe the Canadian, it's just off topic, back to Big West. I can't believe the Canadian people were able to take over their entire capital. And then the government asked them nicely to leave and they left. They actually had a complete revolution and they were so nice. They just left.
35:41 That is some, that is some hardcore niceness up there. Like, I bet you, if you go to Canada, they will just bake you cookies just to be like, welcome to Canada. You just ask them, will you bake me cookies? Yes. Those guys, so nice. They're too nice. They're too nice. They almost had it. They almost had a revolution. And then they, and then they hire Mark Carney, world banker, to, to run the country. Talk about just, oh gosh, what a bad choice. Um, not that there's other choices that are better, but not to get too political here, but oh my gosh.
36:18 When you understand how the bankers are vampires on the earth. And if you're a banker, um, just recognize that bro. Just start farming. You'll, you'll, it'll reform you. Trust me. Um, but, oh, vampires. Um, all right. Let's see here. Um, I experienced something similar when I try IMO for it cools down within a day. But last time I noticed my soil is very clay heavy and the small clumps of soil remain dry inside. Yeah. More moisture, more moisture because here in this stage, when you are going here, if you're
36:55 adding in soil here, and this is the, what Joe would call IMO for, but I call it foundation IMO because you're building the foundation IMO. Um, if your soil is really dry, it's about getting it up to 65% moisture content. I don't, it doesn't say it on this paper. Oh no, it says right here. When moisture stop adding solutions, when moisture content reaches 60%. Okay. I said 60%. I was conservative there. 60, 65% somewhere in there. So you need to reach this moisture content. So step one here is very important.
37:30 The picture doesn't necessarily, if your soil is super dry, you need to make sure it reaches 60%. That's what it says. So it is there. It is there. It's crucial. It's crucial. Step one. That's step one, bro. Come on. Step one. So if you're, if it's cooling down, it might be a lack of moisture. It might be these other conditions. It might be the piles not big enough. It's, it's hard, you know, each person to do this, to debug, which by the way, come in here to learn. I think, uh, is anybody, uh, is anybody interested in a course in January?
38:06 I think in, and are you interested in a one week intensive course or a two week more like, like same amount of content, but over a longer period of time and a little more farm work and time to explore the island. If you are, drop it in the comments, put it there. Cause I'm thinking of doing a course. I haven't, I haven't done one. I didn't do one in 2020. Did I do one in 2025? I don't know. I might've done it. No, no, I didn't do one in 2025. Well, did I, maybe I did. I don't know. I can't remember. I can't remember. That's bad. Um, I might've done one in 2025. I don't think so though. Did I?
38:49 I don't know. I can't remember. A lot has changed. A lot has changed. Um, so anyway, I'm thinking of doing a course, um, but only if there's interest and, um, and by interest, I mean, uh, putting your money where your mouth is, man, because, um, two weeks for me for sure. Okay. Yeah. Two weeks would be better, right? You come to Hawaii. Plus I got, I got all the cottages here. Like, I don't know if you've seen them. They're fricking luxury, bro. They're like Airbnb luxury. It's like, imagine this office, but like a bed and a dresser and like your own shower and a beautiful sunrise.
39:25 Cause we're right on the East side and it comes up and you can sit on the deck and sip your coffee and be like, wow, or water or tea or fresh orange juice or, um, grapefruit juice or banana juice or fermented plant juice or fish amino acids. If you're really wild or just drink straight OHN. No, whatever, bro. Um, Thomas will come to visit me. You're going to come to the class or you're just going to chill. You could, you could help instruct. Um, yeah, come visit me. You know, I, what am I, you know? So anyway, I'm thinking of doing a course in January, throw that, put that up.
40:04 I may as well put it up. I'm also, I'm doing another thing. I'm launching a business. I got, I mean, I got my business. I've been spending years working on an app, bro. And I'm almost ready. Um, so I don't know. I got a lot going on, but, but keeping up natural farming, I think that's good. Okay. Anyway, we're way past time of me just ranting. Oh my gosh. Rant, rant, rant, rant. Okay. I got to just jump. We got to get to master show because, um, also, can I use grape vinegar homemade than store-bought BRV? Absolutely, bro.
40:34 Your homemade grape vinegar is going to be 10 times better than store-bought BRV. Use your grape vinegar, please, please. And send me some. I would love to try your grape vinegar. Um, yeah, I try to get it over 110 before I flip the first time. Stonemason, that is epic, uh, advice here for the, um, for the IMO process is let it get over 110 before you flip it the first time. Some people are like, you flip it this time. And it's like, no, you, you gotta let the microbes get to a critical mass before you flip them and heat. So you are, um, there. Okay, we got another question up here.
41:16 Um, unripe apple fermented fruit juice for lawn structure and the win. Yeah, why not? Why not? Unripe apple juice will do great for a lawn. Any food will do good. Um, I would recommend comfrey as like the optimal supreme, but why not just use unripe apples? If you got them and they're easy and they're cheap, why not use them? Um, yeah. Yeah, the cauldron is... Okay. Okay. Okay. Um, do you have anyone making hot compost at some scale where tractor is needed? I make 3,500 cubic feet initial windrow with goat manure, chopped pen, and peat.
42:00 Um, I find that it's better to make smaller piles than big piles because if they, if one goes wrong, then you, it's easier to flip. So unless you get a compost turner and you're able to like really do it methodically and, and it can be, it can be, um, unri to, to try to manage a huge pile, but go for it, bro. Do I have anyone making hot compost at scale? No, I don't. I mean, um, you know, just, uh, yeah. Making smaller things. I, nobody here does any scale of anything besides sweet potatoes. And those guys don't go, fuck, bro. You know, they're just going to put all the soil in the ocean.
42:42 It's really bad. It's, it's like anywhere. It's like the ag, you know, the, the people really producing food treat the earth like shit. Um, and the people just, you know, doing small stuff. It's like, we produce a lot of food, but it's not, it's not feeding, you know, they're, they're producing tons of sweet potatoes, you know, truckloads, like, but they're also poisoning the ocean and killing the, you know, all the soil runoff and all that. Anyway, I don't want to get too much on that, but, um, uh, IMO three end up, I always do IMO three and end up applying it.
43:14 It's amazing, but I haven't managed IMO four yet. I'm also trying with less soil than IMO three and it seems to get better with each try. Yep. Sounds good. Sounds good. Um, master chose potting mix. I don't know if I put that out, but I think it's like 10% IMO. I forget. I don't know. He talked about it and I should, you know, speaking of the remote augmented gener or generation that's, we could just ask that he's talked about it. Yeah. Um, money, money, money. Yeah. You know, well, we'll see what I can do in terms of money and how much, what makes sense. I mean, I got to make a living here.
43:59 You know, the tax man will come and repossess my land after three years of non-payment. And I don't think my AR 10 is going to do enough to help me keep it. Um, maybe, I don't know. I don't want to go there. Um, never want to leave Florida. Okay. Okay, cool. Well, let's jump over and get into master show because that's enough of me talking story of stuff. I don't know. No, you know, let's go back to Korea. You ready to come with me? Let's go to Korea. Ready? Go. Okay. We're in Korea. What's up, Korea? Um, this is my friend. She taught me how to make a hat out of a towel.
44:38 I don't know her name, but she's super, super sweet. Uh, beautiful Taiwanese friend that I have. Um, and we're drinking really terrible juice here at this chicken farm that we visited. Look how happy Dr. Park. Let's zoom in on happy Dr. Park. I think he's laughing because he just made us drink this wicked root juice and we're like, oh, so bitter. So bitter. That's why he's laughing. Classic Korean joke playing on the people. All right. So let's jump in here and see what we got. Hey, girl, I'll give you a two more. What do you want to do? Give me another cup. Give me another cup. Oh, yeah.
45:25 Unloading. I thought I'd load like a boss. Unloading like a boss. My uncle does that. He reverses into the loading bay with the thing pulled at your fruit and just steps on the brakes and the thing jumps across the gap and onto the thing. That's your chilling lesson, right? I'm done. I'm done. I couldn't even drink this bitter root juice. You want? Okay. Let's see. This guy's hardcore, bro. He's tough. Good?
46:10 I thought I filmed him unloading the pipe. I guess I didn't. So what is this? This is beehives and they're doing beehives in Korea. And the cool thing about it is like Master Cho gave us a hack for this where you spray fermented plant juice about 20 feet away. And the bees will fly out and go and eat the fermented plant juice off the leaves. Come back to the hive. They'll get some exercise. They don't have to go very far. And you can put LAB in little troughs down at the bottom and they will do that.
46:44 So instead of feeding your bees sugar over the winter, you can do it with plant juice and it's even better for them. They get all those natural microbes from the leaves. They don't get diabetes and they get plant juice and they get all those things that they need. And they make really good honey. So, yeah. I think they're feeding them sugar water here, which is wild. I don't know. Is there a natural plant? Anyway, not everyone does everything right. But we're going to have a nice. What was that? Is that a bunker? What do you think? Is this...
47:30 I'm going to go back. Is this a bunker that they're building? Oh, I'm going back. Back. I'm going forward. Look at that thing going down in there. Did he build himself? Look at that. Going down under the cement slab. Did he build himself a secret bunker? I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, there's good hacks for bees. I should... Oh, man. There's so many... There's so much good natural farming stuff that... What do I end up doing with my life? I know all this stuff. Like, I'm... Oh, man. Natural farming. It's like... It's hard not to think that the burden's on my shoulders. I'm like...
48:02 I'm one of the few remaining people. Outlived every... Like, the war of attrition. Outlived. Outlasted. Like... Like... Ah. But I also... You know... I don't have the world's best team to help to do these things. But... I'm trying my best with what I got. Hey, sugar water. I was just going to try that. So I did try... That is some hardcore... Trost. I love these trunks, too. They're so good. I love these. Let's just go for it. Oh, it's a good one. Your truck is moving.
48:56 Who cares if it's going to dent right there? Drop it off the truck, man. I think we can do it. Yeah, I don't know. Yeah, like, some of the freezes. Just need a bee. Pro-to-to-pack. Oh, yeah. Just drop it on the ground, bro. Brand new. That's okay. There's more. Well, I think they'll... You know. That's it. Man. Screw your material. Yeah, I was going to be like, fan-to-packed. Screw you. I'm just going to drop it. Okay, let's skip the guy dropping it all. I just... I was so entertained by this.
49:42 Imagine that it's coming. They're like, here's your shit, and they just drop it. I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... I'm so... Decent all. Can't have talk there, too. The word is spreading. Oh. Who's that, then? Who's... Who's... Yeah. There's still... I'm glad it's going. I saw... I should have put up. And he's just out, bro. He's out. No invoice. He's gone. Oh, no. He's getting out. We're down. We're on the food, bro.
50:27 This is the best part. You have a good chance to go. One of these barbecues. Yeah. Look at the table. Those things. Look at that. Meat cooked fresh on the table. And then fresh garlic. Fresh peppers. Kimchi. Garlic. Oh. Look at that. Mr. Cho cooking for us. Meat right in the table. This is actually one of the coolest things I've seen. Because in America, right? Like, you barbecue outside. Like, the men do it away from. But this way, you barbecue inside with everybody. The whole family right around the table. Like, talk about the social gathering. Talk about the community for food.
51:08 Just put an exhaust pipe in the middle of your house. And boom. Cook the meat right there. This is game changing. This is like how to bring back life. Family. Koreans. Sitting on the floor, too. You know. Nobody's in a chair. Sitting straight on the floor. Teach your kids. Humility. Barbecue with them. Eat them all like barbecue. Sojourn. This is really good. I need the tofu, though. Leave the tofu out. Not good. Look at that. And scissors and tongs. Like, this is sophisticated stuff. They didn't even use knives.
51:53 They're too sophisticated. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Yeah. Yeah. It's not bad. Still? What? Yeah. Yeah. Going back to the... I don't think it would be the same. Most of the people I know have died. Mr. Lee, he lost his farm. Uh... Master Cho, he passed away. This girl, I don't know where she's at, but we find her. Mr. Cho, I bet we could find him. He's down in Goksung, but I don't know if he still works there. I gotta email him. Yeah? He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung.
52:38 He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. And look at him, serving everybody. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung.
53:14 He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. Look at that. He's just baking the barbecue charcoal right on the table. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. Fresh barbecue? Oh no, she's putting it for the next room. Very nice. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung.
53:59 He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung.
54:26 He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. I don't even know the song. Maybe that's one didn't stand out. Goksung. He's down in Goksung.
54:58 He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung.
55:25 He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung.
55:53 He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung. He's down in Goksung.
