Where to start
Hello
Just asking where I can get reading materials for me to be able to practice KNF. I am from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania in East Africa and I have been wondering if the same will be applicable and successful here.
It is my hope that the book will address the following;
- Pig Shed building guideline ( dimensions etc.)
- Feeding program
- How to make IMO and related recipe that are required.
- Any key information which I have not covered.
The answer
From the KNF library

Drake recommends starting with the basics, FPJ and brown rice vinegar, and learning by asking questions instead of chasing quick answers. (Office Hours Ep. 86, 1:04:46) For an absolute beginner, the library names KNF Protectors (LAB) and KNF Food, with recipes in the Recipe Book at knfsupport.com. (Office Hours Ep. 23, 22:49)
For a detailed IMO guide, one library source points to Cho's book, Natural Farming. (Unravelling the Mysteries of KNF, p. 56) The same source says KNF adapts to local conditions. (Unravelling the Mysteries of KNF, p. 56)
On making IMO:
- Collect it with a box of cooked rice. Do not collect in the rainy season. (Cho, Recipe, p. 11)
- The student manual has you collect the box after three days, mix the contents with an equal weight of brown sugar, and fill a jar two-thirds full. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 44)
- Another source leaves the box undisturbed for 4-5 days, so the timing differs between sources. (Unravelling the Mysteries of KNF, p. 73)
The library says nothing about Tanzania, pig shed dimensions, a feeding program, or a contact person.
