From the KNF library

From the KNF library Drafted by Claude from Office Hours and the books · Sep 2026 · 4 sources

Drake's library gives LAB options that skip milk. Milk is a purification step, because lactobacillus outcompetes other microbes for the lactose. Rice wash water, sauerkraut, and kimchi also carry LAB. (Office Hours Ep. 23, 11:15)

Liquid from ferments like tofu or sauerkraut can stand in for making LAB. (Office Hours Ep. 129, 23:55) The catch is range. Master Cho's starch-water-and-milk method collects a broader lactobacillus family than salt-heavy ferments do. (Office Hours Ep. 129, 23:55) A plant-ferment LAB works, but expect a narrower mix. (Office Hours Ep. 129, 23:55)

Calcium phosphate is harder. WCP is extracted from the bone of vertebrate animals. (Cho, Recipe, p. 64) The Foundation's recipe chars bones of terrestrial or aquatic animals, not birds. (Cho's Solutions, p. 13)

The library names no plant-based source for calcium phosphate. It also says nothing about soy milk as a LAB base.

Hi did you ever try vegan lab? We are considering trying with soya milk. Thanks
