Fruit in imo-3

Hello!

I am wondering if there are any issues with using immature fruit as the carb for imo-3? I assume you would use much less additional water since fruit is already high in liquids. I have an abundance of apple trees and maple trees on my property but very little access to spent grains or nuts.

From the KNF library

From the KNF library Drafted by Claude from Office Hours and the books · Sep 2026 · 3 sources

The library lists wheat mill run as the IMO-3 carb, with 20 L of pond water. (Unravelling the Mysteries of KNF, p. 68) It names substitutes: macadamia nut shells, spent grains, wood chips, rice bran, ulu, or kalo skins. (Unravelling the Mysteries of KNF, p. 60) The choice depends on availability. No studies compare how well each source works. (Unravelling the Mysteries of KNF, p. 60)

The closest match to your idea is potatoes. Drake said blended potatoes, mixed into wood chips with IMO-2 and run through the normal recipe, would be a really good way to do it. (Office Hours Ep. 27, 36:07) He said the potatoes carry enough fats and oils to supplement. (Office Hours Ep. 27, 36:07)

You have apple and maple wood. Wood chips are on the substitute list. (Unravelling the Mysteries of KNF, p. 60)

The library does not cover immature apples, cutting back the water, or any problems with fruit in IMO-3.
