Fpj
How do I go about gathering Sylvania the invasive water plant, how long should I let it dry before I make ferment after taking it from the lake?
Top answer
I have not tried making FPJ from a plant that lives in a lake, but my best guess would be to pull the plant from the lake at dawn, shake the access water from the plant. Then proceed to process for FPJ.

Drake's method uses fresh plant, not dried. Sugar pulls the juice out of fresh plant material by osmosis. (Office Hours Ep. 22, 20:55) The plant is shaken free of dirt, not washed, so its microbes stay on. (Pure KNF Manual, p. 38) The extension guide also says not to rinse. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 32) It says plant material should not be wet from recent rain. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 36)
- Gather fast-growing tips before sunrise. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 32) Drake says sunrise is best but not required. (Pure KNF Manual, p. 38)
- Use the weeds already growing in your area. (Office Hours Ep. 111, 19:47)
- Massage in sugar until the leaves are soft and releasing liquid. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 36)
- If juice is scarce, add fine salt, up to 10% of the sugar weight. (Office Hours Ep. 40, 8:50)
- Ferment 2-3 days, no longer than 7. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 36)
The library says nothing about Salvinia, aquatic plants, or drying lake-wet material.
