Ferment chicken feed with IMO 2?
The answer
From the KNF library
Drake's basic feed ferment uses IMO4. He mixes half pellets and half scratch grain in a 5-gallon bucket with a heaping handful of IMO4, 1-2 oz of maintenance solution, and water or milk. It ferments 24 hours. (Office Hours Jun 2025, 4:43)
IMO4 can be up to 10 percent of the feed. (Office Hours Ep. 35, 43:30) (Office Hours Ep. 9, 50:26)
The library lists IMO2 as the stable storage stage. (Cho's Solutions, p. 11) Cho names fermented feed among the uses of IMO #4. (Cho, Recipe, p. 20) For pigs, where U.S. rules may limit soil-based IMO4, the library says to use straight IMO3 instead. (Office Hours Ep. 9, 59:35) Cho also lists leaf mold fodder made with IMO among pig feeds. (Cho, Theory, p. 176)
The library does not say whether IMO2 or leaf mold alone will ferment chicken feed, or at what rate.
