Disease from pruning

Hello!  I have a question on fruit tree management.  We have apples, pearx, peach, cherry and walnut, filberts If a cut that we made last year became infected how do you treat the cut... it is black and looks burnt.  I was thinking of using a spray of OHN and BRV and LAB and spraying the entire tree bark (it is dormant now).  There are other spots that have cracks in the bark and the inside of the crack looks black.  The tree is shaded for a lot of the morning because of a larger tree just east of them so they probably don't get as much sun as they should, but the tree is on a neighbors yard, so I can't really do anything about it. Would that be the correct thing to do?  My IMO isn't finished yet... I was thinking of doing the SES with the quick microbes too. Thanks for any help you can give!

Top answer

From the KNF library

From the KNF library Drafted by Claude from Office Hours and the books · Sep 2026 · 5 sources

The library gives OHN at 1:1000. Use 1:1500 if the plants are stressed or your OHN is older than 6 months. (Student's Manual, Basic Course, p. 27) It also lists an OHN, FPJ and BRV cocktail sprayed every 10 to 12 days. That source ties the cocktail to powdery and downy mildew, not bark wounds.

The library names LAB among the KNF protectors. (Office Hours Ep. 21, 53:40) Protectors go on tree nursery stock at 1:1000, or 1:700 if disease is bad. (Office Hours Ep. 6, 1:12:50)

At the next pruning, Drake recommends dabbing LAB on fresh cuts. Where you can, prune on a rising or peak tide so less sap pulls up through the wound. (Office Hours Feb 2026, 47:26)

For bark, the library paints a slurry of IMO, seawater and oatmeal onto mossy bark to ease sunburn and help it heal. (Office Hours Ep. 20, 1:06:05)

The library does not cover treating old infected cuts, black cracks in bark, shade, or SES with quick microbes.

Thank you Drake!  And by foundational IMO do you mean IMO 1?
